As a long time attendee of of my favourite #regenerativeagriculture conference Groundswell, I was delighted in June 2023 to have the opportunity to speak and share our experience of bale grazing. This cheap out-wintering solution for livestock, enables great cost savings for the ever present long winter months. By keeping stock outside, you can reduce the requirement for capital intensive buildings, and the associated high variable costs for bedding and cleaning. Cattle stay healthy and can provide a stimulating effect on permanent pasture, adding their wonderful mix of bio stimulants and manure directly to the fields in a controlled daily movement system. Pre-positioning winter feed allows incorporation of organic matter either home made, or imported (giving the opportunity to feed species rich, seed laced hay on site and adding diversity) and reduces diesel use of tractors in and around sheds. This farmer led research Field Lab seeks to address the lack of UK specific research into this important subject, and will be looking at soil structure, carbon, fertility and forage quality before, during and after the five year project.

🌦️ Weather around the country is unpredictable. It's why most residential sprinkler systems have a rain delay feature. But what about larger-scale irrigation, like golf courses? It's critical for golf course superintendents to be able to water and treat course turf around the weather. If you're relying on manual labor for fertilization, overseeding, treating water or fixing soil issues, it' can cost superintendents hundreds of hours of labor over what fertigation can provide. When you're using fertigation, you can treat specific issues (hot spots, water pH issues, organic material in the irrigation, etc.) for a specific duration, at a specific time of day that doesn't necessarily require manual supervision, since it's all done automatically through the existing irrigation.
