As May comes to a close and Mental Health Awareness Month wraps for another year I want to encourage providers to be their best advocate for themselves. Real Self-Care lies in advocacy. Challenge your employers to create sustainable workloads and safe environments for you. Use your voice to hold state regulating bodies accountable to practices that serve not only our clients but their most valuable asset YOU. You are the tool. You are the one on the front lines holding space for true healing to take place. Without you, this work doesn’t happen. You need to be well-maintained and that work rests not only on your shoulders but your supervisors, your agencies, and state regulating bodies that create policies that dictate how this work is done. We’ve come a long way but don’t stop now.

I am very happy that Ryan Munsey will be one of our speakers! Earlier this year I read his book, “F*ck Your Feeling.” It was an excellent read. I look forward to hearing him speak. Here are my favorite quotes from his book - which are equally words to live by. Move the chains. #MTC Your life is perfectly designed for the results you’re currently getting. I can’t is deadly for those seeking to live as the ultimate version of themselves. How you do anything is how you do everything. Information without implementation is wasted knowledge - perhaps worse. The more aware we are of our values, the easier it is to made decisions. You beliefs becomes your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become you actions. We are the sum of the 5 people we spend the most time with. Always look for ways to increase your value as a human. In everything we do, we’re exchanging our time for that activity. Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on winners. Everything looks like a nail, when you only have a hammer. Don’t be a one tool human. The story of your fife is being written - make damn sure you’re the one holding the pen.

As attorneys, it’s easy to get caught up in the demands of our profession. Many of us entered the field driven by a passion to help others and be zealous advocates for our clients. Yet, we often forget to be zealous advocates for ourselves, especially when it comes to mental health. Our Type-A personalities and perfectionism can sometimes work against us, leaving us vulnerable to burnout and stress. That’s why I’m excited to co-host this event with Delphine Gervais, where we’ll dive deeper into the mental health challenges many of us face but seldom discuss. Say it out loud with me: It’s okay to prioritize our own well-being so we can continue to serve others effectively.

Mental health parity is important. It would be great if they increased the reimbursement rate for providers and paid providers on a more timely basis so that more mental health providers would financially be able to participate in insurance networks, which would increase access of care.
Today, NAMI celebrates a major step in our decades-long advocacy to achieve true mental health parity. The Biden-Harris Administration finalized new rules around strengthening mental health parity protections, increasing accountability and enforcement mechanisms. NAMI is grateful to the Administration for making mental health parity a priority, and for taking this important step to help people access life-saving care. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4d0B7gj

Loneliness is more than just being alone; it's an emotional response to perceived isolation. Often described as social pain, it motivates individuals to seek connections. It's crucial to understand the distinction between solitude and loneliness. Solitude is about being apart from others, while loneliness stems from a lack of connection and intimacy. It's a subjective emotion that can be felt even in a crowd. Loneliness can be short-term or chronic, always intense and painful. Kara Huxtable, I'm looking forward to such an important event.
Introducing our speakers for Not Alone Day! • Lucinda Brogden AM Previous Commissioner and Chair of the National Mental Health Commission for 8 years. She is now a Director at Corporate Mental Health Alliance Australia, Australian Unity, and Be Kind Sydney. I make it a point to prioritize my own mental health and wellbeing and believe that Mental Health Awareness Month can be a time to do 3 simple things: 1. ACKNOWLEDGE how we are doing, how we are feeling, and what we need to find peace, balance, and mental wellbeing. Pranayama breathing has worked well for me. Feel free to try it for yourself. https://lnkd.in/e77ESCr5 2. LEARN more about mental health conditions and offer support to the people in our lives that are struggling with acute or ongoing mental health challenges. https://lnkd.in/e5tXeZq7 3. RECOGNIZE those that have committed their lives, either through vocation or caregiving, to those in need of mental health support. THANK YOU! The work may not be easy but it is absolutely necessary and appreciated. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #wellbeing #mindfulness
In 1949, Mental Health America helped to designate May as the national observance month for mental wellbeing. Since then, the behavior and mental health care industry has grown to almost $70B and is projected to be over $100B by 2028. It’s encouraging to see so many promising programs emerging to provide meaningful solutions to patients and families seeking support. We are honored to support and feature the ground-breaking work of Mindoula through their Specialty Population Health Management and Collaborative Care programs, where doctors and mental health specialists work together to support the wellbeing of their patients. Thank you to the Mindoula team for their work to identify, engage, and serve populations with complex behavioral health, medical, and social challenges across the continuum of care.
