While the west continues to ‘discuss’ how much renewables and when, China has bet the table on being the source of all of it. That’s partly a huge service to humanity as we can thank the early investors for the tremendous cost curve ride we now enjoy for solar panels, batteries and other things. It’s also very worrying as those late to the game will rely on someone else’s tech/products which has security, economic and other implications. It might not be too late.. But government action will be required and fast.

This chart is perfectly in line with our post about the article of David Gowell regarding China and its rise in the hydrogen sector.

So many conflicting thoughts running through my head: 1) What competitive advantage is China trying to achieve by dominating Clean Technology Supply Chains? 2) Does China's dominance (i) create a security issue for the US to go green; or (ii) challenge the US to compete? 3) If China has such a lead, should the US just pack it up, go home, and stick with fossil fuels? 4) Why is Chapter 5 of Sun Tzu's Art of War titled "Energy"?

Measuring consumer confidence in the economy is crucial for understanding current economic strength and future consumer behavior. Survey data collected by Ipsos from October 20 to November 3, 2023, highlighted in the 2024 Global Forecast Series. An average of 50% of polled adults globally felt confident about the economy in 2024 compared to 2023. India, Indonesia, and China were the most confident countries about the global economy in 2024. Asian countries dominated the top five most confident countries, with South Korea and Japan being the least confident in Asia. South American countries varied in confidence levels, with Brazil being the highest and Chile the lowest. North American countries had mixed confidence levels, with Mexico more confident and Canada less confident. Europe was the least confident region about the global economy in 2024, with only Poland having over 50% agreement that the economy would be stronger than in 2023. #economy #consumerconfidence
