Today is #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that encourages individuals to donate to organizations that positively impact their communities. At Goodwill, we help tens of thousands of Kentuckians each year who are facing poverty, homelessness, justice involvement, addiction and much more, like Joni, who came to Goodwill while residing in a sober living home. She now works as a Career Coach in Lexington. “I didn’t think there was any hope for me,” she said. “I had reached such a dark, scary and lonely spot. I didn’t think there was any getting out of it. But Goodwill gave me a second chance to be able to prove myself.” Watch Joni’s full story and support our mission by visiting GoodwillKY.org/Giving.

🚨 Homelessness Hidden in Plain Sight: Unpacking the Invisible Crisis 🚨 Homelessness isn't always what we think it is., it's not the person on the street corner but the unnoticed struggle of those around us. A close friend recently revealed that he had spent several months couch-surfing after losing his job, a reality he had hidden while maintaining his professional demeanor online. Here's what surprised me: Many homeless individuals hold jobs yet can't afford housing. Families with children are one of the fastest-growing homeless populations. Homelessness can often result from unexpected events like medical emergencies or family crises. We must shift our perspective and recognize that homelessness can affect anyone, even those we consider our peers or colleagues. 💡 How can we, as professionals, help make a difference? Let's start the conversation. Share your thoughts, experiences, or initiatives you've seen work. Together, we can bring this hidden crisis into the light. 🌟 Call to Action If you want to make a difference, consider donating to SAGAesc.org or volunteering with our organizations that support those experiencing homelessness. Let's work together to uncover and address homelessness hid. #Homelessness #SharingOnWheels#InvisibleStruggles #SocialImpact #ProfessionalAwareness #HumanityFirst

Make a Difference, Big or Small: The Power of "Someone" We've all heard the saying, "We can't help everyone." While the world's problems can feel overwhelming, there's a powerful flip side: Everyone can help someone. This simple truth underscores the immense impact of individual action. Maybe you can't solve world hunger, but you can volunteer at a local soup kitchen. You might not be able to end homelessness, but you can donate warm clothes to a shelter. The point is, every act of kindness, no matter how small, has the potential to make a real difference in someone's life. Here's the challenge: Look around your community. Who needs a helping hand? Is it an elderly neighbour who struggles with groceries? Perhaps it's a classmate feeling overwhelmed with schoolwork. There are countless opportunities to extend a helping hand, and the ripple effects of your actions can be truly inspiring. Remember, even the smallest acts of kindness can spark a chain reaction of positivity. Let's all strive to be the "someone" who makes a difference. #SocialResponsibility #Community #BeyondTheClassroom

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling that declares there are no constitutional protections for individuals who are unhoused facing sweeps, even when there is no shelter or housing available. Our neighbors can now be fined by simply existing in public spaces. As a nation, we are making survival harder for those living on the streets. Issues like substance use, mental health, and budget constraints are often linked as the main causes. Data has shown this to not be true, it is simply a lack of #housing that is the true cause. #Houselessness is solveable. Continuing to marginalize people is never the solution and is only perpetuating the cycle of houselessness. As a #community, each of us possesses the power to make a difference. Please continue to support organizations who are on the frontlines, volunteer, and donate. Our individual actions can drive meaningful change. #GrantsPassVJohnson #SocialJustice #SCOTUS #AffordableHousing

✨ Homelessness—does not concern you? In Dutch we say: far from my bed. In fact, it is not that far. Homelessness is much closer than you think. Anyone can become homeless due to circumstances beyond their control. The so-called 'economically homeless' are people like you and me, without addictions or psychiatric issues—‘just’ without housing. This can happen due to divorce, illness, job loss, or all of the above. Here’s how you can help: 🏨 Support ROOM FOR CHANGE: Donate or connect us with a hotel willing to provide rooms. 👥 Homies: Start a friend group that supports a homeless individual socially 🙌 Volunteer: Join organizations like Straatconsulaat or De Regenboog Groep. 💼 Offer a job: Does your business have a spot for a (formerly) homeless person? Contact us to join our work placement program! 💬 Show compassion: Have a conversation, listen, and make someone feel seen, heard and human. Together, we can create real change. 🌍💛 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ewhzN93j #EndHomelessness #CompassionInAction #LetsChangeLives #ROOMFORCHANGE is a program by The Present and is supported by Start Foundation

MYTH versus FACT MYTH: Homelessness only affects adults FACT: In the US, approximately 1 in 30 children experience homelessness each year, with around 3.5 million children affected. Additionally, nearly 20% of the homeless population consists of families with children, emphasizing that many babies, children, and teens face homelessness. When you support Crisis House, you're helping us further our reach to serve the families who need support the most. As the year begins to come to a close, please consider a donation of any amount to help us sustain our mission. Every person and family deserves a safe place to call home. Friends, Recent reports of homelessness on the rise can be cause for despair — especially for those experiencing it. At BRC, we don't despair. We're focused on helping, healing and housing New Yorkers in need. That's why in the last year, 1,209 individuals served by BRC moved from homelessness to home, on average more than 3 times a day. And 14,409 times last year -- every 36 minutes -- our outreach teams -- the Orange Angels -- helped someone unsheltered find their way to an appropriate setting. So there is no need to despair; instead join us in making impact: become a volunteer, a staff member, or a donor by clicking here: www.brc.org Thanks for any way you can support us. Wishing you a happy, healthy and hopeful new year. Muzzy

Why is homelessness not just about the lack of a home? In Britain, there is a program called Housing First. In New York, a similar program was implemented several decades ago, where the homeless were given housing without requiring that they first accept treatment for addictions or mental health issues. But does this approach really work? Will people appreciate what is given to them as manna from heaven? It’s no coincidence that lottery winners often squander all their money and end up in poverty. The problem isn’t with the housing, but with the mindset. Our main character, Dean, was initially placed in a hostel, then moved to a better one, and finally received his own apartment. But unfortunately, he was evicted from both the hostel and the apartment. What prevents homeless people from maintaining a normal life and keeping their homes? Perhaps it's because homelessness is not just about the lack of a home but also the lack of a sense of belonging. Imagine moving into your own apartment, and when the social worker’s door closes behind you, you are left completely alone. Your friends are likely to be a couple of unsavory types in the neighborhood, your family relationships are strained, and you have no friends. By the way, you probably don’t have a job either, because as soon as you start working, you have to pay for the apartment yourself, and in London, that’s a huge expense. So, you try to survive on benefits, but the money is never enough. Breaking this vicious circle is difficult for anyone, let alone for someone who is homeless. So why would you need a home if you don’t have a life? Please, SUPPORT OUR FILM WITH A DONATION OR HELP US SPREAD THE WORD to make a difference and drive a change.
