Did you know you can actually snowboard on hemp fibres? More precisely hemp-fiber reinforced thermoplasts? The #DuroBast project is using native bast fibres to create 100% bio-based solutions for automotive interior, bus bellows and sporting equipment like snowboards. Take a look at this prototype by project partner Silbaerg GmbH at the Hannover Messe, here presented by Maximilian Salmins from the Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe GmbH. You can meet the DuroBast team till April 26th in Hannover, Germany and learn more about the innovative spinning methods and fibre pretreatment solutions developed in the project. DuroBast is kindly funded by the Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V. (FNR) and the Ministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft, Forsten und Fischerei. Exciting to see communities in Sweden experimenting with different types of asphalt and other measures to reduce noise pollution for residents with two or four legs. Crews working for the city of Helsingborgs stad in southern Sweden have laid asphalt with smaller aggregate on a section of road near the Jordbodalen nature preserve. The noise-reducing asphalt, in combination with new insulated, sound-absorbing guardrails, is expected to reduce noise levels by 2-4 decibels, resulting in a more pleasant environment for both animals and people. Asphalt innovation is important to Nynas - whether to reduce noise, increase longevity, or lower a road's carbon footprint. We regularly supply noise-reducing asphalt projects with highly modified PMB to help improve deformation resistance and longevity in asphalt that relies on a more porous structure to absorb sound. https://lnkd.in/dtRhPFqA #asphaltinnovation #bitumen #PMB #noisepollution #Helsingborg

Safety First: Exploring the Evolution of Climbing Ropes Over the Decades The importance of climbing ropes in ensuring the safety of adventurers and workers alike cannot be overstated. Here, we delve into the fascinating evolution of these crucial tools over the years: Early Beginnings: Initially made from natural fibers like hemp, early ropes were heavy and susceptible to environmental damage. They were reliable within their limits but lacked the durability and flexibility required for more demanding ascents. Technological Advancements: With the advent of synthetic materials, climbing ropes underwent a significant transformation. Nylon, introduced in the 20th century, revolutionized rope-making with its superior strength, elasticity, and resistance to water and abrasion. Modern Innovations: Today, ropes are not only stronger and lighter but also tailored to specific climbing needs, such as dynamic ropes for rock climbing and static ropes for rescue operations. Innovations in rope technology continue to enhance safety, performance, and durability. Safety Standards: Stringent testing and certification processes ensure that modern ropes meet high safety standards, providing climbers and workers with reliable equipment in challenging environments. This journey from natural to synthetic, from basic utility to high-tech safety gear, highlights the critical role innovation plays in the development of climbing ropes. It’s a testament to how advancements in material science and manufacturing processes can significantly impact safety and efficiency in climbing and industrial operations. #ClimbingGear #SafetyFirst #RopeTechnology #Innovation #OutdoorSafety

The ocean is vital to all life on earth, and it's often referred to as "the lungs of the earth". Sadly we are not appreciating it the way we would if it was inside our own bodies. Barnacles and other biofouling species are hitchhiking on ships and causing harm to vulnerable ecosystems every day (under water, out of sight). This also leads to a 100 million ton increase in CO2 emissions every year due to the increased friction through water. However, the good news is that there is sustainable solutions to this problem. By capture biofouling, ensuring it is no longer out of sight and out of mind. The mindblowing thing is that by stopping biofouling, the shipping industry would save 20$bn in fuel every year. I'd like to give massive credit to Ryan Stalker and the British Wildlife Photography Awards for bringing biofouling to the spotlight. Let's all work together to protect our oceans and the environment. #oceanlife #sustainability #environmentalprotection ECOsubsea 1000 Ocean Startups UpLink - World Economic Forum SWEN Capital Partners Klaus Østervold Abigail Robinson Ole Christian Troland Silje Sjursen English Rebekka Østervold Tomás Crespo Moreno Rune Fagerbakke David English

🌟 My Recent Adventure at Mooserboden Reservoirs, Kaprun 🌟 Hello everyone! I wanted to share my recent visit to the impressive #Mooserboden reservoirs in #Kaprun, Austria. It was a truly fascinating experience, both for its natural beauty and the technical aspects involved. 🚠 Situated at 2,036 meters in the majestic Tirol mountains, the reservoirs offer stunning panoramic views of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Access to the reservoirs is via a bus that travels through a tunnel built during the 1930s and 1940s. The excavation of these tunnels involved advanced techniques for its time, such as dynamite and machinery, showcasing the ingenuity and dedication of that era. 🏔 The views from Mooserboden are breathtaking, with crystal-clear waters and alpine landscapes providing a unique visual experience. The surrounding trails offer a full immersion in nature, while the engineering of the tunnels reflects remarkable technological progress. 🍃 The engineering behind the Mooserboden tunnels illustrates how innovation can overcome significant challenges. In business, this reminds us of the importance of adapting and finding creative solutions to stay competitive and sustainable. If you have the chance to visit Kaprun, I highly recommend exploring the Mooserboden reservoirs! It’s an experience that combines beauty, history, and valuable lessons. Have you had any experiences that made you reflect on innovation and resilience? Share your stories in the comments! #Innovation #Sustainability #BusinessReflection #Travel #Nature

https://lnkd.in/d9YBGAYU Why innovate? Innovation is the key to revolutionizing marine sustainability, empowering us to protect and preserve our oceans in remarkable ways. By embracing cutting-edge technologies and unleashing our ingenuity, we can face the challenges that threaten our marine ecosystems head-on, offering new solutions and approaches that will have a lasting impact. 1. Sustainable Fishing Methods: Let's leave traditional fishing practices behind and embrace innovative solutions that don't harm marine biodiversity or deplete fish populations. It's time to fish smarter, not harder. 2. Ocean Energy: The power of the oceans is immense, and with innovative technologies like wave energy converters and offshore wind farms, we can tap into this vast resource to generate clean and renewable energy. By reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, we can combat climate change and protect coastal communities and marine ecosystems. 3. Marine Conservation Drones: Unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with state-of-the-art cameras and sensors are poised to revolutionize how we monitor and protect marine environments. These drones can swiftly detect illegal fishing activities, identify threats like oil spills, and help authorities respond quickly to protect our precious marine life. 4. Artificial Intelligence and Big Data: With the help of AI algorithms and big data analytics, we can unlock the secrets of marine ecosystems. Through the analysis of vast amounts of information, we can better understand their complex dynamics and make informed decisions to protect them from environmental changes, pollution, and other threats. 5. Sustainable Aqua Farming: Traditional fish farming has often come at a cost to our oceans, but innovative aquaculture practices are changing the game. By incorporating precision feeding technologies, natural nutrient cycles, and recirculating aquaculture systems, we can minimize environmental impacts, support food security, and protect wild fish populations. 6. Marine Pollution Solutions: It's time to fight back against pollution and waste that threaten our marine ecosystems. By embracing advanced filtration systems, bioremediation techniques, and floating litter collectors, we can combat plastic pollution, oil spills, and other contaminants, protecting marine life and preserving the beauty of our oceans.
