The City of Karratha hosted a reception at the Red Earth Arts Precinct to welcome the Governor and Mrs Dawson to the Pilbara. Attended by a broad spectrum of the local community including emergency services, government organisations, local industry, volunteers, patronages, community groups, and aboriginal organisations, the evening provided an opportunity for the Governor and Mrs Dawson to meet people that love living and working in the region and to hear their ideas for making the Pilbara even better in the future.

I continue to sit with the dissonance that much of the work that I do is not in the home community that I live in. I have sleeping and waking dreams of how my community might transform, yet don't have a shared space to actualize those possibilities with those living around me. Perhaps you relate. I wonder how I can be in right relation with my community as a settler when the majority of my energies are directed non-locally. What is the turn to be being bioregional that invites the complexity of multispecies entanglements and socio-cultural complexities with the place where I feel home? These questions inspired a new workshop that we'll be hosting on November 22nd in Victoria, BC. This workshop is an invitation to collectively pursue Victoria as a community of Solidary in regenerative social and ecological relations. The focus is to build power from within to drive better conditions for all. If you consider the Capital Regional District your community or know others who do, we hope you will express your interest to join us for this in-person workshop https://lnkd.in/gKh2hS3y Who is the "we" that is hosting? This is a co-created vision of the Solvable team, Robin S. Cox, PhD & Michelle Hamilton-Page (Royal Roads University), Vanessa Andreotti & Rene Susa (University of Victoria), and the Transition Bridges Project. The design takes inspiration from the book, #Solidarity, by Leah-Hunt Hendrix and Astra Taylor and their evocation that Solidarity is made, not found. Come build Solidarity with us, and share this invitation with other community members aligned to this calling. https://lnkd.in/es6yMM8E A Letter to The Wind Dear Wind, In times of prosperity, it's easy to overlook those most in need. However, as stewards of society, it's our solemn duty to ensure that the vulnerable among us are protected and that those who have fallen on hard times receive the support they require to stand tall once more. While grand projects and monumental structures may capture attention and awe, it's the collective well-being of all members of our community that truly defines our success. Just as resources are allocated to construct towering pyramids, we must also allocate resources to ensure that every individual has access to the basic necessities of life. Let us remember that the strength of a society lies not in its monuments but in its compassion and solidarity. By extending a helping hand to the most vulnerable and uplifting those who have stumbled, we uphold the values of justice, empathy, and equality. Together, let's strive to create a society where every person, regardless of their circumstances, can thrive and contribute their unique gifts to the world. With determination and compassion, Dr. Bile

For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and increasingly non-Aboriginal people, the day the First Fleet raised the Union Jack at Warrane, Sydney Cove is known as Invasion Day and celebrated and recognised as Survival Day. 'Warrane' is the Sydney language word for Sydney Cove. The Gadigal people have lived on the southern shore of Port Jackson for millennia. The land and harbour provided abundant resources, and the people thrived. The historical events of January 26 means that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people see this date as a day that marks the anniversary of colonisation and dispossession of this nation’s First Peoples in 1788. For the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and families who Mackillop works with across Australia, our commitment to reconciliation through truth-telling, means listening to the community. For many Aboriginal people, January 26 is a reminder of harsh and inhumane policies. These policies, that continued into the 1970’s, and created the Stolen Generation, continue to impact Aboriginal children and young people – some of whom we work with, through intergenerational trauma and disadvantage.
