Hospitality Sector Boosts Hiring for Summer 2024! Hospitality businesses are ramping up efforts to hire UK-based talent, aiming to fill 990,000 summer jobs, according to new research from Caterer.com. Major events like the Olympics, 2024 EUROs, and Taylor Swift’s UK tour have prompted 80% of businesses to increase staffing. Vacancies have surged by 24% from January to March 2024, with Scotland, the Northeast, and Yorkshire seeing the highest increases. Despite this, a quarter of businesses face challenges due to a lack of local talent. Brexit's impact is still felt, with 69% of businesses struggling to recruit. As a result, 85% are now recruiting from outside their local area, offering perks like accommodation support, relocation packages, and flexible shifts. A rising trend shows 3 in 10 workers are willing to relocate within the UK for better opportunities. Businesses are also tapping into untapped talent pools, such as ex-offenders, to meet the demand. I just wrapped up an insightful conversation with Josiah over at Hospitality Daily the other week. We dove deep into the challenges and opportunities in the hospitality hiring landscape, backed by data from two powerful studies: - Hireology 2024 Hospitality Applicant Survey - Hireology-AHLA Food & Beverage Hiring Report These reports are packed with strategies designed to turn recruitment into a serious competitive advantage. We dissected the numbers and talked through the actionable steps hotel operators can take to thrive in this complex labor market. Based on the October BLS job report, leisure and hospitality was one of the sectors that saw a dip in job openings. So what does that mean? It's more important than ever that hotels are leading with confidence during the hiring process. To all the hotel managers out there, it's about more than filling roles—it's meeting candidate expectations head-on. Check out the episode and let's chat about how these insights can elevate your hiring game! ---> https://hubs.ly/Q02Z5M900

"Crafting Excellence: Nurturing Talent and Fostering Growth in the Hospitality Industry" Staffing is a critical aspect of ensuring the success of any team in the hospitality industry. As Food and Beverage specialist, I place a high value on creating a team that is not only skilled but also passionate about delivering exceptional experiences to our guests. When it comes to staffing, nepotism is a topic that requires careful consideration. While it can be tempting to hire friends or family members, it's important to prioritize merit and qualifications above all else. Hiring based on relationships rather than qualifications can lead to resentment among team members and may ultimately impact the quality of service we provide. At our property, we strive to create a culture of fairness and transparency in our hiring practices. We believe that by hiring the best candidates for the job, regardless of their personal connections, we can ensure that our team is comprised of individuals who are dedicated to upholding our standards of excellence. One way we nurture talent within our team is through mentorship programs. These programs pair seasoned professionals with aspiring talents, providing guidance and support to help them grow in their careers. By investing in our team members and providing them with opportunities for growth and development, we not only benefit our employees but also enhance the overall guest experience. In conclusion, staffing is a critical aspect of ensuring the success of our team in delivering exceptional hospitality experiences. By prioritizing merit and qualifications in our hiring practices and investing in the growth and development of our team members, we can continue to uphold the high standards of excellence that define our brand. #HospitalityExcellence #TeamDevelopment #MeritBasedHiring #NurturingTalent

An Open Letter to Hospitality Professionals and HRs Dear Professionals in the Hospitality Industry, Have you ever considered that your experience in hospitality might just make you the perfect candidate for a PA or EA role? If you’re from the hospitality world, you already know the hustle: managing expectations, anticipating needs, and handling high-pressure situations—all with a smile on your face. These are exactly the traits that make exceptional PAs and EAs. Think of those chaotic days when the restaurant’s fully booked, or the hotel’s overflowing with guests. You juggle requests, troubleshoot issues on the fly, and manage crises with grace. That’s what being a PA/EA is all about—handling whatever comes your way and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. You’ve spent years mastering the art of service, and that attention to detail, combined with the ability to make quick, sound decisions, translates beautifully into the corporate world. For HRs out there; Don’t overlook hospitality professionals when scouting for PA/EA roles. These individuals have already honed their ability to work under intense pressure, multitask effectively, and remain proactive. They bring something extra to the table—a natural aptitude for client relations, an ability to anticipate needs before they’re communicated, and an innate sense of professionalism. However, to my fellow hospitality professionals, here’s a quick word of advice: learn to say no. In hospitality, the customer is always right, and the instinct is to please everyone. But in a PA/EA role, setting boundaries is crucial for keeping priorities straight. Saying no is not about refusing to help, it’s about managing your time effectively and ensuring that the most important tasks are given the attention they deserve. So, HR professionals—next time you’re filling a PA/EA position, take a closer look at those with a hospitality background. And to my hospitality peers—don’t underestimate the value of your experience. You already have what it takes to thrive in a corporate environment, and you might be the perfect fit for a role you never even considered. Sincerely, Jacqueline Rwezaura 🤗
