The Golden Gate Bridge: A Timeless Icon of Engineering and Inspiration Connecting San Francisco to Marin County, the Golden Gate Bridge isn’t just a marvel of engineering—it’s a symbol of resilience and creativity. Built during the Great Depression (1933-1937), it provided thousands of jobs when they were needed most. Length: 1.7 miles, with a 4,200-foot main span—one of the longest in the world! Iconic orange hue: Chosen for visibility in fog and to make a bold statement. Traffic: 112,000 vehicles cross it daily, plus dedicated walkways for cyclists and pedestrians. Designed to endure powerful ocean currents, heavy fog, and high winds, this masterpiece of art deco design is a testament to teamwork and ingenuity, brought to life by Joseph Strauss, Irving Morrow, and Charles Ellis. From films and TV shows to its role as a cultural and architectural icon, the Golden Gate Bridge is more than just a route—it’s a story of human determination.

Exciting times ahead at Coastal & Ocean Basin Ostend! To support the renovation of the Fort Boyard in front of the French Atlantic coast, we will conduct 3D physical model tests at the COB, focussing on the wave dominated processes such as overtopping, loading and wave transmission. The 3D scale models of the protective construction and harbour are being finalized now, physical tests will start soon. Enterence of Jiroft city from north, is the intersection spot of two high traffic axes(baft-jiroft and kerman-jiroft). In order to organize these incoming traffic flows and conduct them toward Jiroft ring-road, design of an interchange was put on agenda. Due to the multiple traffic flows at this point and the lack of space, it was not possible to use the typical three-way or four-way interchange templates in intersection point. In addition to these limitations the cost of construction and construction facilities, the option of a multi-level interchange was also removed. Finally, the design was done by dividing the intersection into two parts, north and south which separated different traffic flows with different destination from congragating at one point at the enterence of city. #interchange #highway_design_engineer

Historic buildings have genesis in the uniqueness of usage, quality, materials, art and architecture of such buildings besides long duration and time span of existence at a particular location. With the passage of time, advent of new technologies and changing context of buildings in terms of energy, water, resource, global warming and waste, existing buildings require change in their structure and fabric. Changes are also necessitated by ongoing wear and tear which buildings face not only due to natural forces of weather and climate but also by the disasters caused both by men and nature. Accordingly, buildings need to be altered, repaired, upgraded and maintained , so as  not only to make them healthy but to increase its life span. This process is known as Retrofitting. Process of Retrofitting become all the more important and relevant in the case of historic buildings, which, because of their historicity, must be retained for communities, to showcase their past. Process has applicability in all typologies of buildings both historical and current.
