On Wednesday, Graham & Company broke ground on a $52 million, state-of-the-art 460,000 SF facility in Montgomery, AL for Hyundai MOBIS. This expansion project began with Graham & Company's Industrial brokerage team working with Hyundai MOBIS and the existing landowner, then Graham & Company Development stepping in to assemble a design/build team to make Hyundai MOBIS's vision a reality. On the outside it looks Futuristic, but! I’ve been part of Tranforming construction for a long time now, and I’ve been fortunate enough to work alongside some of the Global names of Architecture but they were mainly from the Commercial world. Now I’m only interested in Housing, Affordable Housing,I believe we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to crack this not only for the UK but for many other Countries that really do respect British innovation, British innovation comes with years of testing and procedures that most countries don’t have or would ever fund. Now I’m fortunate enough to have basic understanding of engineering fabrication both traditional and extremely advanced, technological methods that I can’t believe isn’t magic, incredible discoveries that are used in everyday production but most people don’t understand and why should they, they buy or consume the products with little understanding of just how advanced the technologies are that produce them, so back to the Car, I was part of the Design team at The UK Government’s largest ever transformation programme called The Construction innovation hub, based at our Manufacturing Technology Centre, over 200 organisations came together to transform the construction sector, Wow what an opportunity! I was fortunate to work with the leading Car and aerospace engineers and work with international research teams, most of what we need to transform within the construction industry exists within other sectors. “The Car industry” for decades funding and technology has been at the forefront of change, and apart from Cars having 4wheels not much of the old technology exists in modern automotive industry, So why did I choose this image, I believe the Housing industry needs to understand manufacturing far more than it does today, manufacturing processes are designed to maximise efficiency and are designed to optimise materials for production and ultimately cost savings, that’s why we use a QFD process to identify best materials, the process takes into account every aspect of material and manufacturing process that supports it through to final and future needs. I believe we need to rethink our material choices when designing future homes, I know I did, but much like this image others are designing the future without advanced materials knowledge. We need our Homes to take full advantage of known technologies and processes that will build futures for all.

Nolan Browne talked to us about the billion dollar shift he's seeing in industrialized construction—we dive into what that means for manufacturers and reps, and how they can take advantage of the shifts (link to full interview in the comments). Here are some key insights: Leveraging Rep Firm Product Portfolio Capabilities: If you are a rep firm, utilize your ability to assemble and adjust your portfolio rapidly to include innovative products that meet the evolving needs of the construction industry. This agility can give you a competitive advantage in capturing new market segments. Market-Driven Product Development: Prioritize developing products and services that are explicitly demanded by major corporations. This approach minimizes risk by ensuring there's a market ready to buy what is developed. Industrialized Construction Opportunities: With billions of dollars shifting from onsite to industrialized construction, there's significant potential for growth in offsite and delivered construction methods. This includes the demand for different materials and technologies suitable for a factory setting rather than traditional construction sites. Adapting to Technological Shifts: Stay ahead by adapting your products to fit the needs of more technologically advanced and energy-efficient construction practices. Consider how your offerings can align with the needs of volumetric construction and other modern techniques. Strategic Partnerships and Integration: Explore strategic partnerships or integration with startups that align with your business model. This can bring new technologies and innovative solutions that modernize your operations and offerings. Distribution Channel Innovations: The changing landscape in construction and manufacturing may allow you to bypass traditional distribution channels. Look for ways to directly integrate your products into the supply chains of large construction projects or into the production processes at factories. Enhancing Material Specifications: As market demands evolve, especially in industrial settings, the specifications for materials like building products will change. Staying proactive in adapting your material specifications to meet these new standards can position you as a leader in the industry. Understanding Customer Needs: Deep customer understanding remains crucial. Whether you are a manufacturer or a rep firm, continuously gather feedback to keep your products and services aligned with what the market needs, especially as shifts towards industrialized construction continue. Focus on Efficiency and Decarbonization: There is a growing emphasis on efficiency and decarbonization across industries. Position your offerings to align with these trends, which can not only attract customers looking to reduce their carbon footprint but also comply with evolving regulatory environments. Thanks again to Nolan and ADL Ventures for being on the show!
