UKEireSpill-PFAS aims to generate a communication strategy between members, relevant regulators, CLAIRE and CIRIA, in order to develop best practices for the management of PFAS incidents and PFAS remediation. Additionally, to ensure that guidance produced by regulators, CLAIRE and CIRIA is practical, realistic and capable of being implemented. Meet the PFAS Working Group of the UK and Ireland Spill Association Ltd (also known as UKIreSpill-PFAS). The Key Objective of the Group is to generate a communication strategy to members, relevant regulators and in particular CLAIRE and CIRIA that enables the PFAS Working Group to communicate to members best practices about the management of PFAS incidents and PFAS remediation. Additionally, to ensure that guidance produced by regulators, CLAIRE and CIRIA is practical, realistic and achievable. The PFAS Working Group should issue guidance through articles in Spill Alert and presentations to members at conferences and events. Last week, the US Environmental Protection Agency (#EPA) published long-awaited regulatory rules establishing maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) for six per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The ruling is aimed at reducing PFAS exposure in drinking water for approximately 100 million people. The EPA will provide an overview of the Clean Water Act's Effluent Guidelines Program and PFAS-related rulemakings in addition to EPA's focus on assessing opportunities to limit PFAS discharges from multiple industrial categories. NJDEP will offer a regulatory update on PFAS and information regarding the implications these parameters have on the various NJPDES permitting programs. Information will also be provided on available laboratory methods as well as its challenges. And lastly, practitioners will offer a multi-media regulatory compliance update relative to PFAS. This will include reporting requirements, anticipated changes to permit requirements, and addressing potential sources PFAS for protection of endpoint receptors. In addition, discussion of regulatory challenges working through the NJ remedial process.
