🧡 Reflecting on Truth and Reconciliation Day 🧡 As we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th, it’s a moment for all of us in the business community to pause and reflect on the profound significance of this day. This day honours the children who never returned home from residential schools, as well as the survivors, their families, and communities. It’s a time to acknowledge the painful history and the lasting impacts of residential schools on Indigenous peoples across Canada. Why is this important for us? 🏛️ Building Awareness: Understanding the history and experiences of Indigenous peoples is crucial for fostering a more inclusive and respectful workplace. 🏥 Promoting Healing: By recognizing and commemorating this day, we contribute to the healing process and support the journey towards reconciliation. 💢 Commitment to Change: It’s an opportunity for us to commit to meaningful actions that support Indigenous communities and promote equity and justice. Let’s take this day to educate ourselves, engage in conversations, and reflect on how we can contribute to a future where every community can thrive in mutual respect and understanding. Together, we can make a difference. 🧡 #TruthAndReconciliation #EveryChildMatters #IndigenousRights #Inclusion #BusinessCommunity

Today, on National Child Day, we reflect on Canada’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and its guiding principles: protection, provision, and participation. Children, as the most vulnerable population, are deeply impacted by crises worldwide, including conflict, displacement, and systemic inequities compounded by family breakdown with local stressors like immigration, poverty, culture-clashes and more. In these challenging times, safeguarding children’s rights is more critical than ever. At The Regional Diversity Roundtable (RDR), we remain dedicated to building equitable systems where children and youth are not only safe and healthy but also have the opportunity to celebrate their unique identities and contribute to community building. Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive in inclusive environments that nurture their potential and honor their individuality. Let us renew our collective commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of circumstance, is supported, protected, heard and included. Celebrating National Day for Truth and Reconciliation🧡 Today, September 30 marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in honour of the children who never returned home from residential schools, survivors, families, and communities impacted and living through the trauma of residential schools. There were 140 federally-run residential schools in Canada that operated between 1867 and 1996. First Nations, Inuit and Métis Nation children were taken from their families and communities to attend these schools, which were often located far from their homes. More than 150,000 children attended Indian Residential Schools, and many never returned to their families. As an organization focused on empowering young minority women and girls, we understand that true empowerment comes with acknowledging history, learning from it, and fostering a future where all voices are heard and respected. Reconciliation is more than just a word — it's a commitment. We honour the resilience of Indigenous survivors and pledge to continue our work to dismantle the barriers created by inequality, knowing that change starts with truth.🧡 #TruthAndReconciliation #EmpowHERto #HealingTogether #EveryChildMatters #IndigenousPeoples #OrangeShirtDay

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honor the survivors of residential schools and acknowledge the deep pain and trauma endured by Indigenous families and communities across Canada. 94 "calls to action" urging "ALL" levels of government — federal, provincial, territorial and aboriginal — to work together to change policies and programs in a concerted effort to repair the harm caused by residential schools and move forward with reconciliation. You will see from CBC News Beyond 94, a website that monitors progress on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action. The Government since 2015 has only completed 13 out of 94. Yet, the city of Vancouver addresses 79 out 94. This is not just up to the government, this is up all. Today, our Toronto office is wearing orange in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honors the survivors of residential schools and the many lives impacted across generations in Canada’s Indigenous communities. The legacy of residential schools is a tragic one: every Indigenous person in this country is either a survivor or is one generation away from someone who endured the trauma of these institutions. More than 150,000 First Nations, Métis, and Inuit children were taken from their families to attend these schools. The impacts of this history are still felt today, with Indigenous communities facing challenges such as higher rates of poverty, inadequate access to clean water, and systemic barriers to education and healthcare. As a business and as individuals, we have an obligation to reflect, learn, and support meaningful action. Today is not just about remembrance—it is about acknowledging our role in fostering reconciliation and committing to a better, more inclusive future for all. Together, we must listen, uplift, and advocate for change. #OrangeShirtDay #TruthAndReconciliation #EveryChildMatters #IndigenousRights #SupportHealing
