#TuesdayTip Nonprofit board members can excel at fundraising without asking for money. Here's how: ☑️ Leverage Personal and Professional Networks. Introducing the organization to foundations, corporations, or influential individuals within their network can pave the way for potential funding. ☑️ Be a Storyteller. By sharing stories that highlight the nonprofit’s successes, the challenges it faces, and the difference it makes on social media, at networking events, and even in casual conversations, board members can inspire and motivate others to support the cause. ☑️ Advocate for the Cause. By becoming vocal advocates for the nonprofit’s cause, board members can influence public opinion and policy, potentially leading to public funding, grants, and increased community support. ☑️ Create and Share Content. Board members can contribute by writing blogs, recording videos, or sharing photographs that showcase the nonprofit’s work and impact, and by sharing the nonprofit’s content on their personal social media. ☑️ Host Awareness Events. While the primary goal may not be to solicit donations, these events create a platform for potential donors to learn more about the cause, meet the people involved, and see firsthand the impact of their support. ☑️ Share Skills and Expertise. Nonprofit board members often come from diverse professional backgrounds, bringing a wealth of skills, such as marketing, legal advice, strategic planning, or financial management, that can save the nonprofit considerable resources. I've been having a lot of conversations lately with nonprofit professionals who are questioning the value of events. Many organizations have unintentionally burnt out their teams with events that yield little profit and few new donors. But here's the thing: events are crucial for your donor pipeline. When done thoughtfully, events can be powerful tools for fundraising and community engagement. Here are a few insights: 🔥 Alignment with Mission and Values: It's essential to find an event that aligns with your mission and values. This not only raises funds but also creates meaningful experiences that resonate with your community. 🔥 Engagement and Experience: Events are not just about raising money; they're about engaging with your community. When you create experiences that align with your mission, you build stronger, more connected relationships. 🔥 Finding Your Niche: Not every organization needs to host a golf tournament or gala. Finding your niche in the event space will help you stand out and be more effective. If you're wondering how events can better support your nonprofit, let's brainstorm together. Connect with Ember 2 Action to explore how we can create impactful and engaging events tailored to your organization. #NonprofitEvents #CommunityEngagement #Fundraising #NonprofitLeadership #EventPlanning

Reframing fundraising for nonprofit boards: Beyond the ask. Fundraising is about identifying people who care about your mission, building relationships, and providing meaningful appreciation. In my work, I often see board members shy away from fundraising, viewing it solely as asking for money. But it's time to shift this perspective! Here are some ideas... 1. Identify Passionate Supporters: - Leverage your network to find individuals who align with your mission - Look for people with personal connections to your cause - Engage in community events to discover potential supporters 2. Relationship Building: - Share compelling stories about your organization's impact - Invite potential donors to volunteer or attend events - Build connections through regular, meaningful communication 3. Appreciation and Recognition: - Develop creative ways to thank donors - Share specific examples of how donations make a difference - Create opportunities for donors to see their impact firsthand Remember, every board member has unique skills to contribute to this process. Some excel at networking, others at storytelling or event planning. The key is finding each person's strengths and applying them to the fundraising journey. 💪 How are you empowering your board to excel in these areas? Share your innovative approaches! #NonprofitFundraising #BoardDevelopment #DonorRelations #MissionDriven

It's been a minute since my last #WhatamIreadingWednesday posts but while my pace may have slowed down a bit there will be a few more posts as I am getting caught up and ready for #SummerReading As event season slows down a little bit for nonprofits until the fall I wanted to share about "The Art of Gathering" By @Pryia Parker! This book really changed how I thought about events, not just fundraising events but also small gatherings and especially trainings/conferences. Some of the key takeaways were: *Be Very Clear What the Purpose is and just networking isn't a purpose but what or who do you hope people come aways with or knowing *Clearly communicate the purpose to attendees before, during and after the gathering *Create clear social rules and boundaries and don't be afraid to enforce those rules to make people feel comfortable *Ending a gathering on time, clearly and well is just as important if no more than how you start These are just a few nuggets that I gleaned from a book that every person who enjoys gathering and connecting people should read! What is your favorite tip for gathering people? #nonprofitlife #nonprofitevents #Gathering #nonprofitfundraising #events

The silent killer of nonprofit fundraising: are you guilty? You've poured your heart into your arts organization. Your latest exhibition? A masterpiece. Your outreach programs? Transformative. But when it comes to fundraising, your passionate pitch falls flat. Why? Arts and cultural nonprofits face a unique challenge: balancing pride in their work with the humility needed to engage donors effectively. The solution? It's time to master the art of humble fundraising. Many leaders fall into the trap of over-promoting their organization's achievements, thinking it will impress potential donors. But the truth is excessive self-promotion can actually repel the very supporters you're trying to attract. You want to connect with donors who share your passion and vision. You want them to feel like partners in your mission, not just ATMs for your latest project. Effective fundraising isn't about showcasing your greatness—it's about inviting others into your story and showing them how they can make a difference. You might think, "But if we don't promote our successes, how will donors know we're worth supporting?" Fair question. The key is to shift the spotlight from your organization to the impact you create together with your supporters. If you’re ready to transform your fundraising approach, start by reviewing your latest campaign messages. Are you talking more about your organization or the difference donors can make? Your answer might surprise you—and it could be the key to unlocking new levels of support for your mission. #artsleadership #nonprofitfundraising #donorengagement

A plan for your development helps manage your time and resources. Development requires a village of people to implement, an event coordinator, a grant writer, a marketing director, a cultivator, and a slew of connectors and volunteers. Building a plan requires knowing how you will raise those funds, who will support that effort, and when each activity will take place. You can read more about it here: https://bit.ly/3z1fwpZ #annualdevelopmentplan #nonprofit #nonprofitfundraising
