Would you wear a plastic bag to work? What about a plastic shirt? Using oil and natural gas as basic building blocks, the fashion industry has created fibers that are spun into the fabrics we know today as polyester, acrylic, spandex, acetate, olefin, neoprene, polyester fleece and microfiber. Essentially, they are all types of plastic, and their manufacture, use and disposal are having a giant impact on our environment. More than 60% of our clothing today is made from synthetics. What does this mean for you, for your ecosystem, for the future of our planet? 👉 https://lnkd.in/eKtYd3C2 #GrassrootsNews #blog #PFAS #plasticfree

#Recycling #Sustainability #EcoFriendly #FashionTrends #TextileRecycling #MonoMaterial #EnvironmentalImpact Last Christmas, you bought a dress online. It had a cotton and polyester blend for the main body, lace at the hem, a cotton pocket with a synthetic lining, buttons and a plastic belt at the waist, and a zipper at the back. Now, you're tired of it. You think you're being eco-friendly by sending the dress to a recycling center, so you feel like you're not creating waste. 👗 But do you know what the possible journey of this dress might be?🤔 First, it will be sorted by material and color. Because it has multiple materials, the buttons, zipper, and plastic belt need to be manually removed. The cotton and polyester blend of the main body will need mechanical or chemical separation. The lace on the hem must be separated individually. The cotton pocket and synthetic lining also need to be treated separately. All disassembled materials are sorted by type and then different methods are used to extract the recyclable components before reaching the spinning stage. ⚗🧪🧬 I haven't even mentioned the many steps in between, such as cleaning, impurity removal, and dyeing. Surprised? The more complex and diverse the materials, the more processes and resources are involved in recycling. Now you can understand why mono-materials are so significant for both the fashion industry and environmental sustainability. Come to us, and let us show you the trend of the fashion industry towards mono-material fabrics. 🌍♻️

When was the last time you looked to see what your clothes are made of? Do you check the care label to make sure you wash them as suggested? Do you look to see the fibre content before you make a purchase? Do you have any idea what fibre(s) are in the clothes you're wearing right now? Here’s 2 simple actions you can take today to help #reduce waste and make a difference. - BEFORE you make your next clothing or home #textile purchase, have a look at the #fibre content label. Look to see if it has 85% or more cotton. - Because when you and your old trusty tee or worn down denim are ready to part ways, if they’re at least 85% cotton you can pass them on to us for #recycling. We’ll do the rest. We’ve made it super easy for you to cast off your old cottons. Contact us on https://lnkd.in/eU6vccJc

The first thing you notice when buying a shirt, is the color. But have you wondered about the source of those vivid colors, dyes? You probably haven't. But you'll probably do more than wonder if l told you that dyes is one of the biggest polluters in the fashion industry. Using at least 125 litres of water, all while disposing that chemically intoxicating water into our water streams, it's a big problem. The Journey of a Cotton T-Shirt: From Field to Fashion. Ever wondered about the journey your cotton t-shirt takes before it finds its way into your wardrobe? 1. Cultivation and Harvesting The journey begins in sunny, moderate rainfall fields where cotton seeds grow into plants that produce fluffy cotton bolls. After about 200 days, these bolls are harvested, setting the stage for the next steps. 2. Processing Post-harvest, the cotton is cleaned at a ginning facility to remove seeds and debris. It’s then spun into yarn and woven into fabric, which is subsequently dyed and finished to achieve the desired color and texture. 3. Manufacturing and Distribution This fabric is cut, sewn, and transformed into the t-shirts we find in stores. After manufacturing, these shirts are distributed globally, reaching retailers and finally consumers. 4. Use and Recycle A cotton t-shirt serves us with comfort and style until it’s worn out. Ideally, it’s then recycled, but as we know this happens rarely. Next time you wear your favorite tee, think about this journey—from a simple seed to an essential fashion piece. Looking after our garments longer can make a big difference in our environmental impact. #sustainablefashion #lifecycle #tshirt #ecodesign #missloveterra

People look for products that deliver on quality and performance. When those products happen to be sustainable, it's an extra win. Studies show that products marketed for their effectiveness and reliability sell better, even if sustainability is part of the story. By focusing on quality, innovation, and performance, you connect with customers who want long-lasting products that work well and align with their values. Take MUD Jeans, a Dutch denim brand that’s all about durability and style. MUD Jeans uses high-quality recycled cotton and innovative production methods to create jeans that last. They market this longevity, showing customers that their jeans don’t need frequent replacement. The message? Fashion that stands up over time, which also means less waste. MUD Jeans even offers an innovative “Lease a Jeans” program, allowing customers to rent jeans, exchange them as needed, and keep their wardrobe fresh without constant buying. By leading with quality, style, and accessibility, MUD Jeans connects with customers who care about smart choices, and sustainability becomes the added bonus. So, rather than leading with sustainability, start with what your customers truly value. When quality and performance are the focus, sustainability becomes an added strength. --- If you need any help in making sustainability your marketing power, just contact me. #sustainable #marketing #innovation
