Every year, the federal government releases a Climate Change Statement, which documents progress towards Australia’s climate targets. This year’s statement shows Australia’s emissions have fallen and that we are on track to meet the 2030 emissions reduction target of 43 per cent. But hitting this number depends on implementing several policies, including the Capacity Investment Scheme, the Future Made in Australia plan, and The New Vehicle Emissions Standard. In this Grattan podcast, host Kat Clay and energy expert Alison Reeve discuss what the statement means for Australia, and what the government can do over the next five years to ensure Australia hits the targets. Why does Jay Koh call adaptation the “unavoidable opportunity”? It’s simple. Because of the cumulative amount of emissions already in the atmosphere, we’ve already ushered in a new era of extreme weather events and chronic stressors that are going to put pressure on businesses, supply chains, infrastructure, human health, and the built environment through the 2030s and 2040s. Investing in solutions that address these impacts today will yield dividends tomorrow – because those impacts are “unavoidable”. “Carbon is the trash of the climate era”. Amy Harder explains climate change and climate tech so anyone can understand it. Deciphering those complexities is the overarching mission at Cipher News, where she is the Executive Editor. We invited her to our latest episode of our podcast 'The Switch – to a green economy', to talk about, among other things, why knowledge about the energy transition needs to increase. One major reason, she said, is that we need to be able to get clear and concise answers to questions and concerns around the roll-out of clean energy. Watch this episode on YouTube or listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts to discover the top three clean tech areas on Amy’s radar, and much more. A very good podcast that outlines the challenges of scope 3 disclosures and suggests a few ways to gain control over them. Ultimately, there are three potential revenue streams for low carbon products and solutions - 1. regulated carbon markets, 2. voluntary carbon markets, and 3. consumer demand. We have historically focused on 1 and 2. Now, it's time to open a discussion on #3.
🎙️ Check out the new #Carbonsations episode! For this one, host Violet George sat down with Laith Amin of EcoEngineers to discuss how accurate and transparent reporting on #supplychain emissions can result in positive changes in consumer behavior and help bring about a more sustainable future. 💡 Laith was kind enough to walk us through the "Guidance for Developing Carbon Disclosure Legislation" white paper, published together with The Climate Registry and share some of its policy recommendations and other components. ⚠️ #Scope3 emissions are still very challenging to measure and report on, and the white paper offers the necessary tools and frameworks to help make this process easier and more transparent. 🎧 Listen to the full episode on your favorite podcast platform and be sure to subscribe! New on the Perspectives Journal Podcast: Is Market-based Climate Action Working for Canadians? with Broadbent Policy Fellow Brendan Haley. Why are Canadians rejecting carbon pricing while at the same time concerned about climate change? Dispelling the liberal-led framing of this policy as a silver bullet solution to climate change, Haley argues that, "carbon pricing is not a social democratic approach," and that investment in programs like energy efficiency retrofits and industrial-scale policies are more effective and necessary for working-class Canadians. 🔊 Check out this week's episode of #PolicyVoices, where host Catarina Vila Nova sits down with Olumide Idowu (Mr. Climate), Executive Director of the International Climate Change Development Initiative. Now that the long and drawn out COP29 is finally over, a final agreement has emerged in the form of US$1.3tn a year until 2035 in funds to developing nations- but only US$300bn of it will come in the form of what the nations called for the most: grants and low-interest loans from the developed world. ❓ Now we must ask the most important question: can developing nations trust that they'll ever see the money from COP? ⤵️ Listen to the full episode on: Spotify https://t.ly/SCfL_ Apple Podcasts https://t.ly/lalTn Soundcloud https://t.ly/HBsJp #COP29 #SustainableFutures #ClimateChange #Environment
