One important thing I’ve learned in my 14+ years in Tech is that waiting until you really need help to make friends at work (or life) isn’t smart. It makes it look like you only talk to people when you want something from them, which doesn’t build trust or real friendship. Here’s what you can do instead. If you start making friends early, without needing anything in return right away, you’ll have a strong group of people who are there for you when you do need help. This way, you're not just looking for quick fixes but building lasting relationships that are more helpful and genuine. How to gain visibility on LinkedIn When you think about creating a post, are you intentional? Are you telling a micro story? Are you showing how you made a mistake and had to face the fact that yes, we are all imperfect beings? Remember: without mistakes, there is nothing to learn. People want to learn from one another, so the post that makes you uncomfortable may be your best one yet. Here are 3 tips that can help you gain more visibility: 1. Share your good, bad, and ugly story. What unexpected kinks came up in your project, what did you learn from them, and how did the struggle and perhaps new POV make you a more well versed leader?💥 2. Embrace the 3-2-1 formula: Need structure? Use three interesting facts, two anecdotes and one call to action. Just make sure it's relatable.🤝 3. Ask questions that make others want to answer: Rather than ask a yes or no question, ask something that encourages others to share their experiences and even better, bring on some intellectual banter. 🤔 When was the last time you read a post that resonated with you? How LinkedIn comments can change your life I'm a firm believer in support and collaboration. As an introvert, I enjoy building relationships one on one. Some of my LinkedIn connections became friends, clients, vendors, etc. A few months ago, my dear Jill Avey (Women's Leadership Development Coach) wrote a comment on someone's post about women she wanted to uplight, including me.
