Here’s a quick story for you today: My friend had just moved to a new city, let’s call it Newtown for the sake of this story. She was attending a free city-run event when she overheard a few attendees talking. One person described the event as “so Newtown” and the others quickly nodded in agreement. Having just moved, she didn’t know what about the event instantly made it familiar—but the locals did. They recognized the event as consistent with how their city engages with its citizens. In other words, how their city plays. And that’s my point. While I’ll be the first to admit that asking “How does your city play?” sounds vague, trust me when I say your citizens know, even if they can’t put it into words. #citybuilding #cityliving #placemaking #joyfulcities #joyexperiments
