I am talking about the accelerometer—a device that might not make headlines but plays a crucial role in keeping us safe on the roads. This journey into the accelerometer's world reveals how it has become a lifesaver in the truest sense, particularly through its role in the controlled deployment of airbags in cars. The backstory of this innovation is as fascinating as it is complex. It is hard to credit a single individual for the creation of the accelerometer, which underscores a powerful truth about innovation: it is rarely the brainchild of one person. Through this story, I want to share how groundbreaking innovations do not always start from a blank slate; rather, they build upon the ideas and efforts of those who came before. This story also sheds light on the huge rewards that await corporations willing to invest in the incubation of nascent ideas.
