The Great West team recently completed multiple bridge inspections in the Idaho Panhandle National Forest. A towable “manlift” was used to safely and efficiently view key components of the bridges. These inspections are a vital part of ensuring the safety and longevity of the region's infrastructure.

The Port of Baltimore is making strides towards recovery after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. Since the opening of a new deep-water channel on May 14th, container and RoRo vessel traffic has resumed—bringing the port one step closer to full capacity by the end of May. Here are the most recent developments: ▶ Alternative Channels: With four alternative channels now open and a deep draft channel operational, the port is better equipped to handle container vessels once again. ▶ Vessel Traffic: Recent arrivals including Plyca, Donington, Tonsberg, and Spaarnegracht reflect the resurgence of vessel traffic at the port. ▶ Rerouting Dynamics: Shipments originally bound for #Baltimore are now diverted primarily to New York (55%), Norfolk (22%), and Newark-Elizabeth (9%), with rerouted containers exhibiting 196% higher dwell. ▶ Cost Implications: Rough estimates suggest demurrage costs surpassing $37 million since the March bridge collapse, underscoring the urgency of restoring full functionality. project44 is continuing to monitor wait times for these vessels and containers closely. Let’s see, hot air spy balloons go unchecked, Chinese conglomerates buy farm land around Air Force bases, our telecommunication systems have been attacked and taken off line, our power grid has been attacked and taken off line, financial institutions and hospitals have been attacked and taken off line, one now two major transportation bridges have been taken down by barge collisions, our ships are being shot at by Iran or Iran proxies after we released hundreds of billion s in dollars to them, Iran is going around our sanctions and selling oil to China and Russia, while we are once again oil-dependent, inflation and crime is out of control. Know what, I am tired of typing, so bottom line … we are not better off under Biden’s leadership,

This reflects the need for greater resiliency in our transportation network. The additional driving time required in using these detours will result in delays and additional costs to businesses and consumers. CDOT has suggested two alternative routes for traffic — Interstate 70 and U.S. 160. Both routes add hours in travel time. The northern route is 354 miles and requires about six hours. The southern route is 331 miles and requires nearly seven hours.

Stream restoration work will begin this week at Rocky Branch Park in east Fayetteville on a tributary of Flynn Creek. The extent of the work will begin at the stream crossing, located at N. Brookbury Crossing, and extend approximately 700 feet to the eastern edge of the park boundary. The restoration of the stream channel is necessary to protect the parkland, as well as adjacent landowners’ properties, from damage associated with continued streambank erosion. Also, restoration will prevent sediment loading within the Illinois River watershed Learn more: https://cvcpl.us/DJjQ5sb

Hello Connections! #SNSInstitutions #SNSDesignThinkers #DesignThinking April month Article about "BALTIMORE BRIDGE CRASH" Here's a summary of what I found about the Baltimore bridge crash: Incident: A cargo ship named Dali lost power and collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore on February 6th, causing a major section to collapse into the river. Impact: Six construction workers on the bridge were presumed dead. Two other workers were rescued. The bridge, a vital shipping port artery, was shut down for an extended period. Possible Cause: The investigation focused on potentially contaminated fuel as the reason for the power loss on the cargo ship. Aftermath: The focus shifted to recovery efforts and assigning blame for the accident. Questions arose about the adequacy of bridge safety standards and the prevalence of bad fuel in the shipping industry.
