Since moving to Kelowna, I’ve found that the quality and substance I’ve found at business events has been severely lacking. I don’t want to connect over the whole premise of it being wine, of how fancy we can dress, or having to show up and leave with no connections I could actually use or tangible advice. Jessica Weisz, Hannah Spinelli, Alisha McFetridge and I sat down last month to brainstorm how we could create an event that made sense for women in business who are doing amazing things, hiring real people in our communities, and making an impact. Our MVP, The Genuine Gathering is kicking-off Sept 18. Here's what we’re planning: - Curated YPO-style forum groups to tackle your biggest work or personal challenges. - Connecting with others that goes beyond comparing favourite Rosés or healthy muffin recipes. - Deliberate time to share your Asks and Gives with the group. If you’re a woman business owner in Kelowna looking for something with substance and zero fluff, please DM me. We’re keeping it small and intimate to focus on quality of participants rather than simply filling a room to post on Instagram later.

Happy International Women’s Day. We have two final profiles to share to day of Inspirational Women working within Cornerstone. Clare Beach is the Director of Housing and HR covering a wide part of the business. 1. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? My Nan taught me to draw at a young age and so I wanted to be something creative like an artist. In my teens I wanted to be a photographer and I recently found some images I took then that represented homelessness, little did I know I would end up social housing today. 2. What is your favourite hobby? Walking and being in nature with my dog, this is my go to ‘happy place’. 3. What causes are you passionate about? Veganism and animal welfare, I strongly believe that animals should not have to suffer for us. 4. What qualifications do you have? A degree in Media Production with Multimedia, and a Level 5 Diploma in Housing. 5. What is your biggest career achievement? Becoming the manager of a customer call centre in my 20’s, I realised then that anything was possible if you work hard and have belief in yourself. 6. Who is the biggest inspiration in your career? I have several! Two former managers of mine, Suzanne Brown and Sue Robinson showed me the impact and importance of kindness and compassion in leadership. A former colleague and friend of mine, Tanya Alford, showed me, with great passion and humour, the importance of standing up for yourself and for others. 7. What are your top 3 pieces of advice for women within your industry - Don’t think you need to meet every requirement of a job to apply for it. This is common for women and is often why more men are in senior positions. Being brave and having the confidence you can do it will sometimes be enough, you can learn the bits you don’t know once you get it. - Watch and learn from people around you or follow the careers of other women. Work out what makes them great, and use this to guide you in your own practice and career. - Be proud of who you are and what you have achieved, and look for opportunities to celebrate and build up other women. 8. What is your favourite quote? “Never feel too small or powerless to make a difference.” Anita Roddick 9. What is an interesting fact about you? I like to do things that seem a bit scary, this has involved skydives, bungee jumps, military fitness classes and I once rescued a tarantula! 10. What challenges have you faced as woman working on a Board, or in Housing, how you’ve overcome them? In my early working life, when standing up for myself or trying to be heard, I was given some hurtful nicknames from male colleagues. At other times I have been objectified and felt discriminated against. I used these as opportunities to educate and challenge stereotypes rather than let them get me down.

IS IT NOT JUST THE SAME PEOPLE EVERY MONTH? When you consider an annual membership, it can be easy to think that seeing the same women, every month, wouldn’t be as effective as joining lots of non-membership groups, and meeting lots of new faces all the time. But that’s a misconception. Effective networking is about a lot more that just showing your face once a month and collecting piles of business cards. When you invest financially to your networking, you tend to be more committed. At the end of the day, you have to consider the ROI. So, you put the effort in to ensure it’s valuable. You’ll also notice, that when you’re invested in one group, that will very quickly become your go-to place when you’re looking for products or services. The same is true of everyone else. When they need your services, you’ll be top of the list. When considering your networking options, never forget this. The most rewarding networking is never a quick fix. It’s long term commitment that will flourish over time. #longterminvestment #relationshipbuilding #connection #businessnetworking #fempreneurs #womeninbusiness #womensupportingwomen #longtermgoals #bournemouthbusiness

The power of women in community, collaborating, lifting each other up is something amazing to witness and experience. 🌟 In my ten years of leading women's networking groups, I've seen the beauty of women sharing vulnerably their challenges and struggles in business and how other women - understanding those same issues - offer support, ideas, solutions so we all can benefit. 💞 Next Tuesday is an opportunity to come together as conscious, women in business in a safe, sacred, confidential space to talk about our challenges and fears with other women who get it and focus on how to work through those challenges; our partners, families and friends may offer us support and, yet, only others who have or are walking the same path as us - working for ourselves - truly can relate to our journey... 🙏 Plus, our guest speaker, Amy Bergman, Professional Organizer and Speaker, will lead a presentation on how to be more productive and effective with our time and isn't that something we can all improve! ⏰ "Master Your Business" is a place to come together in community, collaboration, and connection to grow, learn and prosper.
