It was a pleasure for PCA to visit Madison Park High School in Boston last week on Halloween! Boston Public Schools We teamed up with DEWALT Tool to show students some of their latest innovations and give a fantastic hands-on experience. From trying out new pipe cutters and expansion tools to practicing proper hanger installation, it was an all around exciting and educational day. Special thanks to Ryan Tuttle, Jack Armour, and Joseph Eagers from Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. for being incredible instructors and helping to put this event together. And of course, thanks to all the students for their engagement to make it such a great day. The future of the plumbing industry looks bright in their hands! #gbpca #local12

3M Floorday Friday - I missed my weekly Friday post this past week being under the weather, so it’s Monday and I’m playing a little catchup. Are you familiar with the 3M SPP pad? It stands for Surface Prep Pad. It’s been around for a few years and a lot of people call it a stripping pad, but it’s not. It’s a scrubbing pad. With just water you can remove 3-5 coats of floor finish off. Stripping floors is not fun. You have to allow the stripper to dwell on the floor to begin the emulsifying process, and then take a black stripping pad to abrade off the coating. Depending how soiled the floor is, what if you could take the SPP pad with just water, and remove the top few layers and reapply? Here is a photo of that example on VCT. The photo on the left is what the floor looked like when I got there. The middle photo shows what the SPP pad can do with water. The photo on the right is after 4 coats of the 3M Protect and Shine. We are also running a promo now through June 30th where the SPP pads are 10% off. This floor pad could be a significant time saver especially with school cleaning season around the corner. Consider giving it a try. #3Mer

A well-maintained entrance mat will last many years How long an entrance mat last, depends not only on the quality, configuration (L*W) and the amount of traffic. Prevent wear and tear through proper maintenance. By vacuuming daily you prevent wear and tear. If dirt remains in the carpet for too long, it can cut the poles. Even though we use specially treated thicker yarns in our entrance mats! Allow wet dirt to dry thoroughly first. Then preferably use a professional vacuum cleaner with a powered, rotating brush or a consumer vacuum cleaner with class C for dust absorption. In addition to daily vacuuming, we recommend treating entrance mats in project environments twice a year with a spray extraction method. In 2018, we installed a class 33 polyamide entrance mat for heavy commercial use in a school with 1400 students, who pass over this mat at least twice per school day. After 5,5 years that means more than 2 million transits! The overall impression of the entrance mat is still acceptable, yet on the right lower corner (the shortest way to the exit for the students) the yarn now starts to wear out. 2 million transits: not bad for an entrance mat! Today is the final day of the BWF’s Fire Door Safety Week, to mark that we thought we’d look back at their 2022 Campaign message, ‘Close the Door on Fire’. This campaign addressed the lack of education and accountability around fire doors and reporting. The campaign aimed to reinforce the message that a closed fire door can be the difference between life and death and driving positive action to reduce fire-related fatalities. Research conducted during Fire Door Safety Week found that a third (32%) of the British public would not report a problem with a fire door, with a perceived lack of personal repercussions being one of the main reasons for not reporting. And despite three quarters (75%) correctly believing that propping a fire door open stops it performing its role in the event of a fire, 44% wouldn’t take action over a propped open fire door as they wouldn’t know who to report it to, and almost half (49%) do not feel it’s their place or role to report it. We hope you’ve enjoyed this years Fire Door Safety Week and the important messages that it promotes. If you have any questions on anything you’ve seen this week then get in touch with our team who will be more than willing to help. We offer free technical advice, site inspections, and have a whole range of products on our website that can keep you safe. 01223 832851 sales@dig.co.uk www.sealmaster.co.uk #BWF #FireDoorSafetyWeek #intumescent

Next week is the British Woodworking Federation's Fire Door Safety Week. Fire Door Safety Week was launched in 2013 in response to a legacy of fire door neglect. The campaign continues in its aim to increase public understanding of the vital role fire doors play in protecting property and life in the devastating event of a fire. It’s crucial to understand the factors that ensure a fire door performs as intended – product manufacture, quality, installation and maintenance all play a part. Their correct specification, maintenance and management can be the difference between life and death for building occupants, as can their use. Propping a fire door open means that they won’t perform as they should in the event of a fire. Everyone plays their part in ensuring a fire door performs as it should, from the manufacturer through to the building users, and this is why the annual Fire Door Safety Week campaign exists. Here at Cambridge Fire Research, we are looking forward to joining the free and informative seminars that will be hosted throughout the week. 📞 01223 834752 📧 testing@camfirelab.co.uk #firedoorsafetyweek #CFR #FireTest

Have you ever seen a "choose your own adventure" firestop assembly? If you've used CAJ8075 you have. I get a chuckle out of this one every time I see it. There are literally 8 different build out options with different penetrating items to choose from. Fun note on treatment. The noted use of FB1003 SL as floor only makes sense for treatment as the SL denotes a self leveling material. If you ever think you're really good at cutting and stuffing wool, 1003 SL will test you! #3M #firestop #firestopping #firesafety #lifesafety #continuingeducation #constructioneducation #construction #buildinginnovation #buildbetter #buildsmart #passivefireprotection #codeenforcement #buildingcodes #firemarshal #buildinginspections #contractoreducation #constructionmaterials #buildingmaterials #kcmo #inspectors #codesinspectors #firemashals
