Foodbank’s Australia 2024 Hunger report highlights the hunger crisis that is gripping Australian communities with 3.4 million households experiencing food insecurity over the past 12 months. This latest data shows the critical need for continued food donations to support families in need. This problem isn’t unique to Australia, with one in five children in New Zealand living in households also experiencing moderate to severe food insecurity. Over the past decade, Kellanova has donated over 65 million serves of our food to support families across Australia and New Zealand via our charity partners, including Foodbank Australia and the New Zealand Food Network. Funded by RI Cares, Better Futures focuses on: Communities: Developing hygienic habits in underprivileged areas. Schools: Educating children on hand hygiene, water hygiene, personal safety, and road safety. Charities/NGOs: Supporting local orphanages and vulnerable children. The results of our annual impact survey are in. We’ve found that, over the last year, there has been a surge in youth food insecurity as a result of the cost of living crisis. The survey also found that: 🍏 The number of charities seeing 18-25 year olds accessing food support has doubled in the last year 🍏 The cost of living crisis is forcing young people to seek support from local charities, which are under pressure 🍏 Almost half (43%) of charities we provide food to would likely have to close down without support from FareShare Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eiVmJmGQ

Here's another example of the knock-on effect that food donations can have. As well as providing food support, many of our Food Hubs like Supergrans Tairawhiti Trust and their own recipient organisations such as Kaimahi Rongomaiwahine provide wrap around services for struggling Kiwis in their communities. While food may not be the only support these Kiwis need, it creates opportunities to connect with them and build meaningful relationships that help them along their journey.
