Arbaugh suffered a severe spinal cord injury as the result swimming accident, causing quadriplegia, paralysis from the shoulders down. This groundbreaking technology is giving him a whole new lease on life allowing him to control digital devices with his thoughts! 🤯 Imagine the possibilities: ◾ How will this technology transform the way we interact with digital devices? ◾ What ethical considerations should we be mindful of as we advance in brain-computer interfaces? ◾ How long before this technology becomes mainstream? I agree that there are no compelling narratives or precise terminology to address this mission; however, in my view, the problem runs even deeper. There is a growing tendency to reject scientific findings and instead seek knowledge from so-called "direct" sources, such as influencers, pseudo-spiritual figures, or political leaders. This phenomenon confines individuals within micro-narratives that obstruct our ability to confront global challenges. Furthermore, the proliferation of hate speech on the internet exacerbates polarization, framing everything as a battle between opposing sides and targeting perceived enemies, such as the woke virus, communism, globalism, big pharma, etc, creating an "us versus them" mentality. Under these conditions, the possibility of finding common ground or reaching collective global agreements becomes increasingly unattainable because each individual perceives reality through the lens of their own conspiratorial values.

I watched a quite fascinating interview with Dr. Eric Schmidt. There were many very impressive points in his talk. I found it very interesting how he emphasized the technologies that will be needed to enable AI at scale as it develops, especially due to AI's power demand. He mentioned batteries, power production, power lines, (implies the improvement for developments in chemistry, material science, physics, and engineering). There were many other super interesting points in his talk, making it one of the most interesting talks at that visionary level about AI that I've seen this year. https://lnkd.in/gpRXZG92
