As part of COP28, KPMG focused on a small number of critical themes, including the global ambition to treble renewable energy capacity by 2030 and how we might overcome the very real barriers to achieving this critical objective. ⚡BREAKING: At the #G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, leaders of the United Kingdom and Brazil officially launched the Global Climate Power Alliance with the goal of meeting the #COP28 commitments to triple renewable energy and double energy efficiency. The effort will involve “missions” to address critical energy transition challenges. Brazil, Australia, Barbados, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Morocco, Norway, Tanzania, the African Union are the first countries to sign up to its first mission. The first-ever Global Renewables Summit, held during #ClimateWeekNYC, gathered global energy leaders to advance the collective mission of tripling renewable energy deployment by 2030, as outlined in the #COP28 commitment to #3xRenewables. This landmark event marked a critical milestone in addressing climate change and scaling up sustainable energy solutions worldwide. The summit focused on identifying actionable strategies to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, a key objective for mitigating global warming and enhancing energy security. Leaders from governments, international organizations, and private sectors convened to explore opportunities, share innovative solutions, and foster collaboration. One of the primary themes was mobilizing finance to support large-scale renewable energy projects, especially in developing economies. Stakeholders emphasized the need for increased public and private investment, policy reforms, and technological innovations to enable a swift energy transition. The summit highlighted the urgency of aligning financial flows with renewable energy goals to meet the global climate objectives by the end of the decade.
