COP29 wrapped up last week in Baku, Azerbaijan. The conference ended with an agreement for developed countries to increase climate finance to US$300B annually by 2035. WWF alongside other NGO’s and climate experts estimate that the funding needed is in the trillions. The G20 recently stated the same. So, the new agreement is not adequate to help developing countries protect their people and economies from climate disasters, while sharing in the benefits of the clean energy transition. Happy to share my interview for RNZ on #COP29 highlighting that the absence of world leaders from the biggest polluting States is a considerable issue. It is important to keep the focus on increasing climate finance and on delivering meaningful climate actions on the ground as part of negotiating modalities and implementation of the Loss and Damage Fund.
