The electric vehicle (EV) revolution is driving a fundamental shift in the energy landscape, leading to increased electricity demand and changes in consumption patterns. As EVs put pressure on the grid, energy companies are turning to renewable energy and storage solutions to meet these needs sustainably. Private credit plays a crucial role in financing these grid upgrades, offering quicker and more flexible capital to support the transition. This partnership between private credit and the energy sector is essential for ensuring a reliable, sustainable grid capable of powering the EV future. Strategic investments in renewables and storage systems are crucial to balancing the load from EV charging, which often peaks during evening hours. As utilities expand infrastructure and adopt smart grid technologies, private credit helps expedite these projects. The collaboration between private capital, utilities, and policymakers will be vital in overcoming challenges posed by the growing demand from EVs while promoting a cleaner, more resilient energy system for the future. The Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) business has enormous growth potential over the next five years, driven by advances in electric vehicle (EV) technology and the demand for grid flexibility. With V2G technology, EVs may not only consume energy but also return excess energy to the grid, thus acting as mobile storage devices. The bidirectional flow of electricity improves grid stability, load balancing, and the integration of renewable energy sources. As the EV industry expands and governments promote renewable energy efforts, the use of V2G technology is expected to grow. Businesses and utilities may generate new revenue streams, cut carbon emissions, and construct a more robust energy infrastructure by capitalizing on EV batteries' latent potential. #V2G #ElectricVehicles #RenewableEnergy #GridFlexibility #Sustainability #Innovation

Will V2G Be The Biggest Resource On The Grid? Today the Australian electricity grid is sized at around 75GW of production capacity with annual consumption of 273 TWh. Over the next decade, when most of our vehicle fleet has transitioned to battery we’ll be looking at around a TWh of potentially available daily storage capacity in 20m x 50KWh batteries on wheels. Clearly this capacity won’t all be allocated to supporting the grid but a sizeable proportion of owners will gravitate to monetising their investment by charging from their rooftop solar then discharging in peaks to the house or grid. This will be facilitated by the recent approval of V2X standards for Australia resulting in a trickle of coming DC bidirectional external chargers like RedEarth’s ambibox and apps that will work with existing EV’s. Batteries on wheels, rather than home or stationary batteries appear to be the major opportunity to implement the renewables revolution purely by their total size. Your thoughts? Have I done the sums correctly? I was never good at maths. Happy for smarter input.
