The subgenus Evoluticauda of the Brookesia genus is endemic to the island of Madagascar. Brookesia (Evoluticauda) was revalidated in 2021 as a subgenus to separate the miniaturized forms of the Brookesia genus from the larger species. In total, there are 31 recognized species in the genus Brookesia, with the Brookesia (Evoluticauda) subgenus containing 13 of those. These 13 species are distributed across much of Madagascar and include some of the smallest amniotes known. #InternationalChameleonDay #ShowYourColors #ChameleonDay2024 #ChameleonDay #ChameleonDayMay9

🌿 𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐓: 𝐁𝐍 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐍𝐞𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧? 🌿 Nearly all local planning authorities face a huge amount of ecological work with restricted capacity. This was the case before BNG became mandatory and is certainly the case since. The crunch on resourcing has been predicted for a long time, leading to the unavoidable elephant in the room: there aren’t enough ecologists. In our latest blog series, Tom Docker, Managing Director at Middlemarch, reflects on key areas of discussion arising from the rollout of statutory Biodiversity Net Gain. In part two, Tom explores whether the BNG system is fair on council ecologists. 👉🏽 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐰: https://lnkd.in/gQssBtXN #BiodiversityNetGain #Biodiversity #NetGain #StatutoryMetric #Ecology #CouncilEcologists #LocalPlanningAuthorities

To effectively conserve #Uzbekistan’s biodiversity, it is necessary to change attitudes toward nature, recognise its value, and implement strategies that enable humans and wildlife to coexist harmoniously. Uzbekistan, located in the heart of Central Asia, is home to numerous unique species of plants and animals, many of which are endemic to the region. Despite its rich natural landscapes – from high mountains to sandy deserts and river valleys – the country’s biodiversity is threatened. In a CABAR.asia interview, zoologist Timur Abduraupov, a researcher at the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, explains why animal populations are declining and what can be done to change the situation. #cabarasia #iwpr #centralasia

Rhizocore Technologies leading Mycologist David Satori is a never ending source of fungal knowledge. Check out his brilliant explainer on the role fungi play in a healthy forest ecosystem.
In the last five years I’ve seen our collective knowledge of mycorrhizal fungi achieve staggering mainstream popularity, with a pulse of bestselling books and documentaries helping to burst the banks of knowledge that for a long time flowed only within the tight channels of academic research. Terms like “mycorrhizal networks” and the “wood-wide web” are now instantly familiar to many people tuned into topics of nature, wildlife, and rewilding, and mycorrhizal ecology feels firmly established as one of the leading topics of discussion within woodland conservation and restoration. Although this ingress of mycorrhizal awareness has been unquestionably good, the research landscape is constantly kicking up new discoveries and calling into question tightly-held beliefs. This autumn, I had the good fortune of exploring a Caledonian pinewood with the talented filmmaker Jack D'Gama to work on a film for WoodlandsTV about the complex mycorrhizal networks that weave life into our woodlands. My intention here was to shine light on topics that haven’t yet been touched upon in popular videos or articles. I hope you all enjoy it and take away something new from this video - I’d love to hear your thoughts on it! https://lnkd.in/egX66sTh #fungi #mycorrhizal #rewilding #conservation #biodiversity #woodland
