While you cook meals and warm up indoors this holiday season, we encourage you to take a moment to appreciate the access to electricity. Electricity is a cornerstone for a healthy life and economic opportunity.💡 Pitas Laut, a small indigenous fishing village in Malaysian Borneo, has big dreams. With reliable electricity, fishermen can store their catches to sell in the city, women can start businesses, and the community can continue to support conservation efforts. This holiday season, give the gift of clean energy: https://lnkd.in/gk_afSgz A huge thank you to our partners Seacology, Tonibung CREATE Borneo and Forever Sabah Berhad for making this possible. #ProtectOurPlanet #Malaysia #IndigenousWisdom #CleanEnergy #SolarPower #SustainableLiving #CommunityResilience

**Tracing and Uncovering the Largest Deforestation Traces in Borneo Island** Millions of hectares of natural forests in Borneo Island have vanished. They were cleared in the name of investment. Forests teeming with biodiversity have been replaced by monoculture crops such as palm oil and acacia, which can never equate to the investment value facilitated by those businessmen supported by the state. Orangutans, an endemic species, are threatened, along with other wildlife, losing their ecosystems and increasing their extinction rates. This deforestation also triggers conflicts with indigenous communities who have long depended on the forest, both economically and culturally. In the name of investment, the state legitimizes deforestation that leads to ecological disasters. A company named PT Mayawana Persada, one of the most massive holders of HTI concessions, has been eroding the forest. The collaborative coverage of the Depati Project, involving several journalists from 6 mass media: CNN Indonesia TV, Ekuatorial, Pontianak Post, Mongabay Indonesia, Betahita.id, and Jaring.id. The collaborative coverage seeks to uncover the facts, who is behind this company, will be aired alternately this week. With different angles and perspectives. What a Transformation!
Three years ago, "Sungai Watch" embarked on its noble journey to prevent plastic leakage into the seas, starting from a river in Indonesia and extending through various rivers. Currently, 120 river defenders work full-time under the organization, making tremendous daily efforts to clean 200 rivers. This constitutes a significant endeavor to preserve the purity of the ocean and aquatic life. #Humanity #Indonesia #People

The picturesque beaches of Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, rich with Ulva seaweed, hold incredible potential for coastal communities. However, turning this seaweed into successful businesses has been a challenge for many locals due to limited resources and support. A transformative capacity-building program has provided new opportunities. With guidance on improving chip quality, adopting advanced packaging, and securing distribution permits, coastal communities are now better equipped to reach broader markets and thrive. Photo and video credit: Maria Gigih Setiarti & Julius Bernardus Captured during a capacity-building program designed to support Ulva seaweed chip MSMEs in Gunung Kidul, initiated by Maria Gigih Setiarti, one of the founders of Sambung Asa, and Winner Perkasa Indonesia Unggul, with sponsorship from Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MAAF/KKP), and GQSP Indonesia UNIDO - Aniq Fadhillah. #EmpoweringCommunities #SustainableSeaweed #GunungKidul #UlvaSeaweed #CoastalResilience #SustainabilityInAction #gqspindonesia

🌿 Empowering Communities for a Sustainable Future 🌿 Kampung Pasir Salam’s first-ever ‘gotong royong’ programme marked a significant moment for the Orang Asli Seletar community and was a powerful demonstration of collaboration in action. With support from local organisations like Ihsan Johor, Yayasan Kebajikan Suria, and other key partners, this initiative addressed essential needs ranging from environmental sustainability to emergency preparedness. 💪🌍 In conjunction with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, volunteers and community members worked tirelessly to clean up almost 4 tons of rubbish, engage in recycling education, and participate in essential emergency drills, including CPR and fire safety. 🚒🧯 The programme also provided the community with much-needed resources, including food contributions and education on sustainable practices. 💚 What makes this initiative even more special? The collected recyclables, which will be converted to cash through CBH RECYCLE’s Trash to Cash programme, provide an additional income stream for the village. ♻️💵 This multi-faceted effort aligns with several of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring that the impact is long-lasting. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gEzt8ubs to explore the full story and discover how you can contribute to these vital causes. Together, we can foster stronger, more resilient communities. 🌟 #SokongArticle #CommunityImpact #SupportIndigenousCommunities #SustainabilityMatters #GotongRoyong #IhsanJohor #YayasanSuria #UNSDGs

It's the International Day of the World's Indigenous People! Do you know that indigenous communities protect 80% of the world's biodiversity and forests?* In their hands, the land is better maintained. 65% of the land that they manage has a low level of human modification, meaning that the land is in its most natural to semi-natural condition.** ASRI believes that the voices of Indigenous people and the local community are the best weapon in tackling the climate crisis. Therefore ASRI centers their voices to be the heart in each of Planetary Health initiatives. In 2021, ASRI is replicating its initiatives in Gunung Palung National Park, Kayong Utara buffer zone to the Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park in Sintang, West Borneo. The majority of the people in the area are the indigenous Dayak Uud Danum people who originated from Central Borneo. Get to know them and learn how ASRI works with them to safeguard the rich forests surrounding their villages! https://lnkd.in/geF848v5 #IndigenousPeoplesDay *World Bank (2021) **The State of Indigenous Peoples' and Local Communities Lands and Territories report by WWF

Using the Sun’s Power to Produce Ice: How small-scale fishers in Indonesia are revolutionising ice production and reducing their carbon footprint. In collaboration with the Indonesian office of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ-Indonesia) and the Ocean Innovation Challenge (OIC) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), IPNLF launched its Solar Ice Maker (SIM) facility in a remote fishing community in Kawa, Indonesia. This innovative technology will be a game-changer for the small-scale fishers who go to sea daily, catching sought-after tuna with their highly selective handline fishing gear. The improved quality of their catch, brought about by the ‘solar ice’, will help safeguard their livelihoods, improve local food security, and open up lucrative export market opportunities. The Quiet Hero In the fast-paced and never-ending demands of our work at PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk. It's easy to overlooked some of the helping hands that help the organization grow. This person is one of the quiet heroes that we have in all across our operational activities. They are not famous. Their names are not in the company newsletter. They aren't seeking the limelight. All they try to do is just do the right thing while look after their families back home. Everyday, individuals like him/her quietly go to their work & making invaluable contributions at their workplace. Meet Pak Sugeng. He is one of the most dedicated crew with >10 years of service for the Post-Mining Research & Development Team. Knowing that developing program for post-mining reclamation requires comprehensive approach and acknowledging potential future challenges, Pak Sugeng went extra mile to help us on conservation initiatives with the aim to protect and rebuild the population of one of the rarest fish in Kalimantan, Borneo Featherback (Chitala borneensis). Freshwater fish are often overlooked in discussion about biodiversity, yet they play an important role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. These remarkable fish are not only fascinating in their cultural value but also provides numerous ecological & economic benefits. Pak Sugeng's contribution served as a reminder that this small step should not go unnoticed. It is up to us to take a look so that every contribution should be valued no matter how seemingly small they may appear. In Bahasa, Sugeng means "Selamat" or can be translated as "Happy" or "Prosperous". For some people, happiness means financial success, fame or status. But not for him, happiness is about giving the best to the current and being present even when he isn't properly acknowledged. So it's time to give the people that help the organization thrive, a proper recognition. Notice them, thank them & support them. Yet, I'm sure that such small gestures of showing compassion will make the world around us be better. It's about being present, here & now for the people that need us to be there. So let us always be blessings to each other. Somewhere South 25 September 2024

In our recent collaboration with 1000 Days Fund, we've illuminated the critical issue of water access and its profound impact on stunting. Beyond nutrition, inadequate sanitation and limited access to water significantly contribute to Indonesia's high stunting rate. Consider Papagarang Island in West Manggarai, where the stunting rate stands at 36% (Data Puskesmas Labuan Bajo 2023), and clean water access is restricted to once a week from Labuan Bajo, prompting residents to store water in tanks. Preventing stunting goes beyond the first 1000 days; it entails ensuring sustainable access to clean water and proper sanitation for future generations. Through initiatives such as developing solar-powered water pumps and training community health workers, Solar Chapter and 1000 Days Fund are actively providing solutions to enhance the quality of life for Indonesia's youth. Join us in our quest for a healthier, brighter future. #SolarChapter #1000DaysFund #WaterAccess #StuntingPrevention

Flashback to last Friday's mission, planting hope, one tree at a time with Jabatan Perhutanan Semenanjung Malaysia (JPSM), and selected Kolej Pengajian Alam Bina (KAB) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) including representatives from UiTM and JPSM, fostering a greener environment. 🌳💚 In essence, the Tree Planting Programme, "Tree of Tomorrow" is part of MNRB's initiative in forward-thinking approach to environmental sustainability that focuses on planting trees today for a better future. This initiative recognizes the critical role trees play in mitigating climate change, improving air quality, and enhancing biodiversity. We're advocating for sustainable practices today to secure a thriving and resilient planet for generations to come. It embodies the principle that every tree planted today contributes to a brighter and more sustainable tomorrow. #MNRBGroup #TreeOfTomorrow #throwback #ProgramPenghijauanMalaysia
