Federal funding to make clean energy equitable is here. It’s up to cities to do the right thing. While some cities are taking practical steps to ensure their clean energy investments benefit those left behind by the energy transition, more cities must act. In this op-ed, Stefen Samarripas, senior manager with The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) policy team, outlines three key lessons city leaders should consider as they launch new federally-funded clean energy programs, and practical steps to ensure clean energy investments reach those with the greatest needs. https://lnkd.in/ehQqvyf3 #cleanenergy

Just in time for the holidays and look for more in the new year. Energy and Environmental Economics, Inc. is proud to have supported the Massachusetts Interagency Rates Working Group in developing a critical report to advance the Commonwealth’s clean energy transition. Released this week, this collaborative effort underscores the importance of equitable, innovative rate structures that enable distributed energy resources (DERs) to maximize their grid benefits while supporting affordability and equity goals. This report reflects a shared vision for a future where clean energy access is equitable, sustainable, and resilient. We look forward to seeing the pathways outlined in this document take shape as Massachusetts continues to lead in clean energy innovation. 📖 Learn more about the report and the groundbreaking work it represents here: https://lnkd.in/gGF6-6PN #CleanEnergy #EnergyTransition #DERs #Sustainability #NetZero #Massachusetts

Weatherization and reducing the carbon footprint of our buildings is essential to curbing climate change. In my day to day work life managing the HUD Weatherization Cooperation and Demonstration grant I am so focused on the Healthy Homes side and working to address substandard housing conditions that I forget the environmental benefits of energy efficiency.
Congratulations to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on today’s publication of the National Definition of a Zero Emissions Building, Part 1 Operating Emissions. This important benchmark features three minimum requirements: buildings must be energy efficient, free of onsite emissions from energy, and powered solely by clean energy. We commend the White House and Department of Energy on this important call to action – and for soliciting input from the affordable housing sector. Our own Green Communities Criteria is a pathway for developers who step up to align their building’s emissions with the newly released national definition. And developments that meet the definition will be on track to receive our highest level of certification, Green Communities Plus. Read Krista Egger’s full statement here: https://lnkd.in/eqtxZSvx

The transition to a cleaner, greener, and less costly energy future is underway -- that's clear. But what's less clear is whether or not that transition is equitable. At Enterprise Community Partners, we're focused on ensuring that affordable communities aren't just part of the equation but that they are central to our efforts to decarbonize and drive down utility costs, both for renters and multifamily property owners. At a time of rising costs throughout the housing sector, cleaner, cheaper energy is key to unlocking a more affordable future. See how Enterprise along with our partners are working to transform the housing energy economy: https://lnkd.in/essMzspu

This video posting illustrates the enduring impact of research conducted during my tenure as Co-Chair of the Environment Committee with Darren Johnson at the London Assembly Greater London Authority. Two reports highlighted from this research are: - "Bring me sunshine": Exploring how London's homes could benefit from solar power. More details can be found at: [Link to the report](https://lnkd.in/efcW7DYY) - "Plugging the energy gap": Addressing the critical issue of energy sustainability. Learn more about this report here: [Link to the report](https://lnkd.in/eE2P9WBs) Acknowledgments are extended to Veronica Qin Ting Li for her interest in the work done at the UCL Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Public Policy, showing us the relevance and significance of our research still today. This post emphasizes the importance of topics like #SolarPower and #EnergyGap in the context of #London 's environmental and energy considerations.
