🌟 *Read , this can be a story of many🌟 Hello, I'm Shilpa Sunil, a designer grad from NIFT INDIA with a specialization in kidswear, currently working as a freelancer. My journey in this industry has been anything but not easy. Despite having an 8.59 CGPA from NIFT and experience working with top brands like Landmark Group , Campus Sutra as inter. and even serving as a OnePlus Campus Ambassador, finding my first job was a challenge. It took me over 6 months post-graduation to secure a permanent position in Mumbai as a kidswear designer—one that offered a decent salary. However, due to unforeseen reasons, I had to quit, and it's been almost six months since I’hvnt had a permanent role again .Therefore currently doing freelance . Like many others, I've found myself questioning the fairness of the industry. It’s a cycle: companies demand experience but aren’t willing to give freshers a chance to gain it. I’ve attended interviews with top names like Trent Ltd , NEWME , and Apparel Group India Pvt. Ltd. , only to be offered lower packages despite my credentials else asking for a experience. For someone who has invested over 15 lakhs in education and is committed to paying off student loans, this journey has been tough, especially moving across states to pursue new opportunities. It’s disheartening to see that sometimes connections or “luck” play a more significant role than merit. What about those of us from humble backgrounds without those networks? How are newcomers expected to gain experience if companies don’t provide those initial opportunities? And where is the guidance for young designers trying to break in?
