The end of 2024 is just around the corner; here are a couple of highlights from the Greenheart blog this year: 💸 It's been a tough year for purpose-driven businesses, with margins being squeezed hard and the operating environment remaining uncertain. Founders and leaders have had to work hard to remain true to their values, particularly in an M&A context: https://lnkd.in/eHN2QTsv 🌳 In spite of this, there have been plenty of developments in the conversation around #regenerativebusiness, including from EY: https://lnkd.in/gpD8xyWg 🦋 ditto the voice of nature in business decision making; something that has long been at the heart of our own approach but gratifyingly increasing in profile thanks to trailblazers like Patagonia, Faith In Nature and House of Hackney https://lnkd.in/ec9g4uey #sustainability #ESG #BCorp #RegenerativeByNature

🌍 We are proud and delighted to announce our successful B Corp™ recertification! This builds on our initial certification three years ago and allows us to stay with over 9,000 enterprises globally that believe business should be a force for good. 🌟 Being a Certified B Corporation® means that organisations have to evidence and demonstrate their systems align to the qualifying standards but even more so, a commitment and accountability for operating with the highest standards of social and environmental responsibilities and impact. It is a rigorous process and rightly so, one which we've always been dedicated to being measured against. The B Corp process addresses five essential areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers. With each recertification, companies must demonstrate their commitment through rigorous standards and a minimum score of 80 points, proving responsible practices in areas such as sustainable resource use, fair worker compensation, inclusive and transparent governance, and environmental stewardship. With a score of 112.6, we’re proud to have raised the bar even higher as we continue to improve, evolve and diversify. Our journey with the B Corp movement began in 2021, and our original certification score of 99.7 was a proud milestone. This latest score reflects our ongoing drive to excel. This achievement also comes after a challenging year, where we encountered some obstacles yet stayed true to our mission for greater sustainability, transparency, and resilience. This was also the year we developed our first spin-out, ARC. A Regenerative Culture., through which we’re supporting other organisations on their sustainability journeys. This initiative significantly contributed to our increased score, demonstrating our commitment to an impact-driven business model. 🌱 At People & Transformational HR Ltd, we have based our ways of being not on four simplified words that represent our values; but on eight principles. Prosperity over Profit, Justice and Belonging and Energy and Wellbeing being just three that symbolise our openness, devotion and intentionality. This recertification strengthens our pledge to embed purpose in every facet of our operations, staying true to our mission: better business for a better world. Our micro-enterprise stands alongside a global community of over 9,000 businesses, and in the UK alone, we’re one of over 2,000 companies, united with purposeful brands such as The Guardian, innocent drinks, Patagonia, Bambino Mio®, HappyPorch, Happy Ltd, Neo | Best for the World B Corp™, The People Experience Hub and many others. A huge thanks to our team, our Visiting Transformers, Spiritual Investors, and all our partners and community for inspiring us to be our best and helping us work towards a sustainable, inclusive future for all. Here’s to another chapter in using business as a force for positive change! #BCorp #BCorpCommunity #BetterBusiness #PurposeDriven #PeopleAndPlanet B Lab UK

🌍 Reinventing Capitalism at the Reinvention Summit 2025 🌍 “We’re in business to save our home planet. This clear definition of purpose is beyond any stretch goal. It has forced us to go much deeper into what it will take to have zero negative environmental impact while still making great products for our outdoor athlete customers.” - Charles Conn We are thrilled to announce that Charles Conn, Chairman of Patagonia, will be joining us at the Reinvention Summit 2025 in Dublin! Charles is a trailblazer who embodies the spirit of reinvention. Charles Conn is an accomplished author, environmental advocate, and former CEO of the Rhodes Trust. He co-founded Citysearch in 1995, where he oversaw the merger with Ticketmaster, the acquisition of Match.com, and the company's public share offering. Charles is also the founder of Monograph Capital a life sciences venture company. As Chairman of Patagonia, he has championed a revolutionary approach to capitalism, prioritising sustainability and environmental stewardship. His career spans leadership roles across business, technology, and social impact, demonstrating his commitment to creating a better future. Under Charles' guidance, Patagonia has redefined what it means to be a purpose-driven company. In his own words, they are "turning capitalism on its head by making the Earth our only shareholder." Patagonia's groundbreaking decision to channel profits into fighting the climate crisis demonstrates that businesses can thrive while prioritising the planet over profit. This bold vision is a testament to Charles' leadership and his commitment to a new model of capitalism—one that balances purpose with performance. At the Reinvention Summit, Charles will share insights into: - How companies can embed purpose into their DNA. - The critical role of leadership in tackling the world's most pressing challenges. - Why aligning business goals with environmental sustainability isn't just the right thing to do—it's the smart thing to do. Patagonia’s sustainability journey shows us how businesses can take bold steps to combat the climate crisis while remaining innovative and profitable. From pioneering environmental initiatives to inspiring change across industries, Charles Conn will delve into actionable strategies that empower organisations to lead with purpose and care for the planet. Patagonia’s story is proof that reinvention is possible, even in industries resistant to change. Charles’ presence at the Summit will inspire us to think bigger and bolder about the future of business, leadership, and our shared responsibility to the planet. 📅 Join us this April 29th and 30th in Dublin to engage with leaders like Charles Conn and other visionaries redefining success in the 21st century. 🌟 **Proud Client Moment Alert!** 🌟 I am thrilled to share the incredible progress of our key ESG Strategy client and Sustainable Business Council NZ member Briscoe Group. At the AGM today Chair Rosanne Meo and COO Andrew Scott spoke passionately about their sustainability program, emphasising four key areas: Governance, Our People, Community, and Environment. Over the past 12 months, Briscoe Group has achieved the following 🌱 Sustainability Achievements: - Set Scope 1 & 2 emission targets with comprehensive roadmaps extending to 2050. - Successfully piloted a waste reduction initiative in managing returns, now expanding to other regions. - Established a thorough and robust ethical supplier program and to date have vetted over 90% of overseas factories - Became one of the first major companies in New Zealand to publish Climate-Related Disclosures. - Achieved a record fundraising year for Cure Kids, raising $1.15 million. - Received over 500 applications for Rebel Sports Grants. In a challenging business environment where many retailers are struggling, Briscoe Group managed to achieve modest growth and world class NPS scores. They are also undertaking a number of significant store upgrades and building a new distribution centre in South Auckland which will further reducing transport emissions. It has been a pleasure working with the Briscoe Team and Board over the past 18 months, and I wholeheartedly echo Andrew Scott’s words: “They have the best team.” #Sustainability #ESGStrategy #BriscoeGroup #SBC #CommunityImpact #SustainableGrowth #Governance #People #Environment #Community

If you run a business, remember that “boring” years are important for long-term growth. At Lemonlight, 2021 was an exciting year of major growth. 2023 involved a different kind of progress—it was a year of getting back to our roots and re-establishing sustainable processes. Because we stopped focusing on “growth at all costs” and started focusing on sustainability, our topline growth slowed to 25%. But, at the same time, our bottom line growth grew by over 100%. We’re planning for significant topline growth again in 2024, but we wouldn’t be where we are today without focusing on sustainability in 2023. The less exciting years are important, too!

What an amazing presentation we saw last night! Thank you Professor Helen Antoniou McGowan for setting this up for us. Sun Coffee Roasters’ founder and CEO Keith Lemnios came to tell us about his journey as an entrepreneur and his fight to keep sustainability and social responsibility at the core of his company. Some of my take aways from this presentation: - Never forget your why: believe in why you are doing what you’re doing and you will not fail. - Think and care about others: take time to think of ALL the people involved in making your business thrive because it’s not just you. - Sustainability starts with team work: making a business (and in turn people’s livelihoods) sustainable starts with open communication and getting to the root of the issue to problem solve and find solutions. Sometimes you have to think outside of the box that everyone else is in. I was really inspired by Mr. Lemnios’ story and I hope to someday work for a company that knows and cherishes its ‘why’ the way Sun Coffee Roasters does.

Growth at any cost? Think again 👇 “We have to be cautious about growing too big. A company doesn't last 100 years by chasing endless growth. There's an ideal size for every business and, when companies outgrow that, they die. We know we have to be intentional in our growth to be around for another 50 years, so we're focused on longevity, not expansion... Our success is based on quality in whatever we do, and we're taking that into the future.” Yvon Chouinard, Founder, Patagonia It’s not always about how fast you scale or how big you become. #growth #longevity #patagonia https://buff.ly/3Yzylut
