At BPI, we're excited to see New York City's commitment to improving waste infrastructure and supporting local communities. ✨🌱 🔍 Here’s what’s happening: Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso is advocating for expanded composting capacity over codigestion to process NYC's food scraps, citing environmental justice concerns. At the Conference on Climate and Compost, Reynoso emphasized the need for more community-based composting, which he argues will reduce truck traffic and environmental impact in underserved neighborhoods. With the city rolling out its largest residential curbside organics collection, the proposed Intro 696 bill would require each borough to build composting facilities that can handle over 180,000 tons of organic waste annually, not to be commingled with other types of waste. Nothing wrong with composting but plastics don't convert into compost. Only Co2.
