Reflecting on 2024, a year filled with both triumphs and challenges, I am reminded of the invaluable lessons and experiences that have shaped this journey. Here are some key takeaways - Attracting Talent: It's about understanding what talent wants, not forcing them into our mold. - Psychology and Tech: Employer branding is more about how creatively we use our tools than the tools themselves. - Observation: Listening and measuring often yield better results than just predicting. - Seeking Help: Acknowledging stress and asking for help is crucial for growth. - Sharing Successes: It's important to share our achievements to gain recognition and inspire others. - Delegating Tasks: Trying to do everything ourselves leads to nothing. Trusting and delegating is key. - Continuous Learning: Staying comfortable can blind us to necessary changes. Embrace learning and adaptability. Highlights of 2024: - My team excelled, taking on strategic projects and responsibilities - Workday implementation - it's a WRAP! 💚 - I had the honor of giving a keynote on Gen Z and publish an article on DEI - both topics close to my heart. - Expanded my network within and outside BayWa r.e., and participated in a fantastic leadership class. Challenges: - Struggling to act on KPIs. Knowing does not mean you can take immediate action (toughest lesson of the year). - Saying goodbye to some close colleagues. 😢 - Realizing that reality often outpaces our plans. Happy New Year to all in my LinkedIn Network! So it’s day one of 2025, how are those new goals going? 😉 Just kidding… Like many, I’ve been looking back to consider how to move forward in 2025 and set those goals. Part of my look back has been delving into the articles and blogs I’d flagged to read/re-read to glean/solidify ideas. One that caught my eye was by Brandy Bischoff in People Managing People on improving company culture (https://lnkd.in/eavGUPYj). It’s packed with lots of ideas, including Brandy’s 11 tips to improve company culture. I’ve popped the headlines of those tips later in this post. What strikes me is that each tip is as applicable to a company as it is to us, as individuals. Culture, after all, is created by each of us and our everyday interactions (back to the idea of small actions, big impact). So if you haven’t set your 2025 goals as yet, perhaps one or more of these following tips can give you some inspiration: 1. Define and communicate core values 2. Lead by example 3. Empower employees with autonomy 4. Commit to accountability 5. Create a culture of transparency 6. Offer opportunities for growth 7. Promote wellness and balance 8. Encourage team building 9. Enhance the physical workspace 10. Encourage risk-taking and innovation 11. Give It Time Personally, “Give It Time” will be a focus. Coming from the deadline driven world of journalism patience is - perhaps - not always my virtue. I also, more generally, need to give myself more time… Anyway, hopefully there’s lots of food for thought here for us all as we look to what 2025 may hold for us.
