On 7 November 2024, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) approved Arla Foods Ingredients’ acquisition of Volac’s Whey Nutrition business. The CMA concluded that whilst the merging parties have a significant share of supply of ‘regular’ whey protein isolate (i.e. standard non-clear concentrate with a protein content of over 90%) and a moderate joint market position in relation to whey protein concentrate (i.e. with a protein content between 50% and 89%), other suppliers will continue to exert sufficient competitive constraint. It further found that the ‘clear’ whey protein isolate market falls under the ‘de minimis’ exception. RBB assisted with economic analyses related to the geographic market definition and the closeness of competition between the merging parties. Regulatory update for sports and active nutrition businesses 👇 - With a new regulation, the European Commission has modified the conditions of use of specific #additives i.e. tartaric acid, sodium, potassium and calcium tartrates, which can now be specifically regulated depending on food categories, for example, for #foodsupplements and #flavoureddrinks. - The Commission has also recommended establishing numerical maximum use levels for the food additives. ❗The Regulation will come into force on 16/12/2024. Foods containing those additives that do not comply with the Regulation, and have been placed on the market before that date, may remain on the market until their ‘use-by-date’.

I'm going to stick my neck on the line here and say that #GLP-1 agonists will shake-up the #foodandbeverage industry more than anything we've seen for a generation. Please note: for those of you who have been following me for a few years, you'll know I have never said this about #plantbased nor #meatanalogs (if you don't believe me check my feeds on LinkedIn and X (grahamcrobinson)) They have the ability to suppress consumption of food and beverage products right across the board, which will set manufacturers scrambling to limit damage to revenues. However, they will also spur the development of entire subcategories of #complementarynutrition products, marketed to consumers of GLP-1 agonists (potentially a large proportion of the population). These products will need to be high in #protein, #fibre, and essential #micronutrients, and potentially open-up entire product categories to suppliers of these ingredients. https://lnkd.in/d94-mhN6
