#BookClub: When advocating for a more sustainable future, we inevitably find ourselves in negotiations. Whether it’s nudging your partner to eat more veggies or lobbying the government to invest in better water treatment facilities, some good tactics can go a long way. More about our #sustainability book club: https://lnkd.in/d-jBMWKa Book description: ‘Never Split the Difference is a riveting, indispensable handbook of #negotiation principles culled and perfected from Christopher Voss' remarkable career as a hostage negotiator and later as an award-winning teacher in the world's most prestigious business schools. Whilst on holiday, I've finally had the chance to finish The Personal MBA by Josh Kaufman, and crikey, what a bloody good read it is! I’ve read my fair share of business books, and while each one has brought value in its own way, this one really stands out. The insights and practical advice are not just helpful for work, but they also apply to my personal life. I can already see ways to improve efficiency, set clearer boundaries, and strengthen relationships, whether it’s by accepting & handling mistakes better or building trust with those I work with, colleagues and clients. What I love most is that this book feels more like a long-term resource rather than just another "how-to." It’s introduced me to several theories that I’m excited to dive into further. I guess that's one of the points of a book whose final chapter is titled "Not 'The End'" and features the following quote from Henry David Thoreau: "A truly good book teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down, and commence living on its hint. What I began by reading, I must finish by acting." P.s. A big thanks to Ali Newton-Temperley for the recommendation 🙌

https://lnkd.in/exaiTWhY Just thought I'd recommend this book to my fellow GLOMBA students at University of Warwick - Warwick Business School. I think it ties in nicely to the current lessons in our Innovation module, looking at evidence based decision making, and will also have applicability as we think about our dissertations. Plus, it explores the link between the world cup and stock markets, and given this is an Olympic year it will be fun to see if the link between sport and stock market performance is even more generalisable!

The truth is, our education system often prioritizes conformity over critical thinking, and it’s designed to churn out obedient employees rather than nurturing true intelligence. John Taylor Gatto’s eye-opening book, “Weapons of Mass Instruction,” sheds light on this reality, revealing how schools are structured more like factories than centers of learning. But there’s hope. By challenging the status quo and encouraging your children to think independently, you can empower them to thrive beyond the confines of traditional education. It’s time to rethink what success truly means and pave a new path for your family’s future. A very great book Servings of Self-Mastery by my brother Prof Dr. Alistair Mokoena (CMSA, Bcom, LLB, MBA, MDP, EDP, PhD) This is one of those books you never know you needed until you have it. Now that you know you need it, you should acquire it. I would go on and encourage all young professionals to get their hands on this copy and indulge in it. As he once said, he wrote this book so that those who would like to be mentored but don't have access to mentors can get guidelines of the required fundamentals. It's fitting that the image in this book is a filled spoon because it indicates the ingredients you'll need in your life to position yourself best to being a better person in society. What I also like about this book is that Dr. Alistair Mokoena (CMSA, Bcom, LLB, MBA, MDP, EDP, PhD) doesn't focus on giving nuggets to be a better professional but to be a better person to society at large.

The Iron Triangle Limits Your Thinking. Although people talk about the Iron Triangle as if it is truth, it isn't. It's seriously misguided and limiting thinking. Here are two posts I've written on it along with an alternative. Look at the picture first. The "Iron Triangle" is seriously flawed. (Penta) https://bit.ly/4epGXIQ The “iron triangle” is bad news. Inverting it doesn’t make it any better. https://bit.ly/4aCVnTI This post is part of The Amplio Consultant Educators Toolkit - https://lnkd.in/gjnfMhFs The book covers the content aspects of Amplio University - a new type of live, affordable training. https://lnkd.in/gVfUvw9n

Knowledge And Decisions With a new preface by the author, this reissue of Thomas Sowell's classic study of decision making updates his seminal work in the context of The Vision of the Annointed, Sowell, one of America's most celebrated public intellectuals, describes in concrete detail how knowledge is shared and disseminated throughout modern society. He warns that society suffers from an ever-widening gap between firsthand knowledge and decision making—a gap that threatens not only our economic and political efficiency, but our very freedom because actual knowledge gets replaced by assumptions based on an abstract and elitist social vision f what ought to be.Knowledge and Decisions, a winner of the 1980 Law and Economics Center Prize, was heralded as a ”landmark work” and selected for this prize ”because of its cogent contribution to our understanding of the differences between the market process and the process of government.” In announcing the award, the center acclaimed Sowell, whose ”contribution to our understanding of the process of regulation alone would make the book important, but in reemphasizing the diversity and efficiency that the market makes possible, [his] work goes deeper and becomes even more significant.” #BookRecommendation #GoodReads #Books #ReadingList #BookCommunity #BookLovers #Bookworm #NowReading #BookClub #Inspiration #Motivation #GrowthMindset #LifelongLearning #ThoughtProvoking #MustRead #BookOfTheDay #WeekendReads #PageTurner #TopPicks https://lnkd.in/gXybbJYy
