Dear filmmakers, The journey from an idea to script, pre-production, production, and finally post-production is one of the most rewarding experiences in filmmaking. This week, I've been continuing collaborating with my editor Haifa Rahme, on a new short documentary that explores the brewing and jazz industries. These sessions reminded me of how much I love the collaborative process—problem-solving, building a narrative, and watching my vision come to life. There’s nothing quite like that moment when everything clicks. It’s energising, a feeling difficult to describe, but reminds us why we create. To my fellow filmmakers: hold on to that feeling. It’s what drives us. Never let it go.

As filmmakers, we often pour our hearts into projects that may never make it to the big screen. Yet, every step in the pitching process, from detailed research and script breakdowns to financial planning, strengthens our skills and builds our resilience. Recently, I’ve been working on a pitch that has allowed me to dive deep into these elements, sharpening my vision while managing the logistics of production. Even though there's no guarantee that this project will be greenlit, the experience has been invaluable. It’s a reminder that the journey of filmmaking—the dedication to the craft and the strategic preparation—can be rewarding in ways that are different from the final product.
