The Birth of GreenTA: a roar for sustainability An event dedicated to sustainable fashion that not only celebrates beauty, but also a commitment to a greener future. The lion, long considered the king of the jungle, was chosen as the symbol of GreenTA. His strength and courage represented the determination needed to face environmental challenges and protect our planet. In addition, the lion is a social and protective animal toward his family, just as the event organizers wanted to be toward the environment and people. Currently, many of my conversations revolve around the concept of Circular Economy. Patagonia's recent campaign, "Unfashionable," aligns perfectly with this discussion. It underscores the importance of quality products and that they are durable. Take a look at Patagonia's campaign - "Fashion is none of our business. We make gear that is multifunctional, repairable and timeless - because the longer it stays in play, the better it is for the earth." https://lnkd.in/ewjuAaP8

Here are some exciting next-gen material industry news you might have missed this week! 🙌 1. Woodspin, the exclusive manufacturer of SPINNOVA® textile fibre, achieved a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification which ensures complete traceability of their sustainably and ethically sourced eucalyptus wood. Spinnova fibre claims to offer 74% smaller carbon footprint, 98% less water used compared to conventional cotton, and waste-free production process by recycling any excess heat. Global fashion brands like adidas and BESTSELLER are among the early adopters bringing this wood-based, biodegradable textile to apparel collections. https://lnkd.in/ezQes-VS 2. Julie Bishop, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia, attended the Australian Fashion Week in a $2000 black cocktail dress by Rachel Gilbert with ostrich feather trim on the sleeves. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) wrote a letter to Julie, suggesting feather alternatives such as the natural pampas grass accessory Pamela Anderson wore on the Met Gala red carpet. PETA asks that as a leader and role model, only to showcase sustainable, cruelty-free brands. https://lnkd.in/e4fEm-BQ 3. Buckingham Palace sent a letter with 'the Queen's warmest wishes' to PETA where Queen Camilla pledges not to buy any more fur in latest Palace move away from animal products and towards becoming environmentally friendly. https://lnkd.in/efX3Qquh Do you have any news you'd like to share? Global Fashion Agenda's Global Fashion Summit Copenhagen 2024 is a wrap! This years’ summit was about unlocking the next level. No news in itself, but together, we indeed can - no: SHOULD - unlock the next level of this so needed change. I’ve enjoyed talking more about a thrivable ecosystem and it’s becoming obvious to me that we must not shy away from turning verified sustainability into something which makes the ecosystem - and companies for that matter - thrive. To show what I mean: watch the Shitthropocene movie by Patagonia as shared today by their CEO Ryan Gellert. A great storyline. At the same time, the movie also gives food for thought and the makers are well-aware of this: “We know there’s an internal contradiction of sending an anti-consumerist message, and then having the brand grow as a result of that,” says Alex Lowther, Patagonia’s head of film, video, and multimedia production. “But we also believe that we can be a fulcrum, where we can help change the way people think about their behavior, and give consumption a hard look.” Curious for your thoughts on whether you think Patagonia or any other company should be using its brand power and sustainability to push for less consumption whilst benefiting from it? From words to action: Back to the office now, making this change happen so our clients and their suppliers can thrive, tomorrow and every day after. Looking forward to continuing to doing so with our team, wonderful clients, complementary partners and competitors. #thrivability #shitthropocene
