NEW: With time running out to pass a 2024 Farm Bill before the Sept. 30 deadline, programs like the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) are in jeopardy. When Congress does pass a new Farm Bill, it must incorporate IRA funds to equitably strengthen climate resilience; otherwise Congress will be leaving money on the table and leaving farmers out to dry. https://lnkd.in/es3W2dN2

In a compelling episode of PBS News Hour series on climate change and water, "Tipping Point," Peter Gleick, Senior Fellow and Co-Founder of the Pacific Institute, sheds light on the critical state of the Ogallala Aquifer. As we witness significant depletion in vital water reservoirs across the U.S., notably in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, the call for sustainable water management becomes increasingly urgent. Peter explains, "The overdraft of the Ogallala Aquifer is the result of a whole series of factors. In part, it's because farmers have brought a tremendous amount of land into production and that requires a lot of water. In part, it's because climate change is reducing the amount of water going to recharge those aquifers.” Watch the full clip here: https://lnkd.in/eq8ektWd #WaterResilience #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateChange #PacificInstitute #PBSNewsHour Geoff Bennett | Kansas Geological Survey | Global Water Partnership | Texas Water Development Board | Oklahoma Rural Water Association | Will Lawrence | Quinton Lucas | Gary White | Tracy Quinn P.E. | Adán Ortega Jr. | Nicole Lampe | Travis Loop.

With the global food system accounting for 35 per cent of global, human-caused greenhouse gas emissions, investors must demand more from food companies' climate policies, writes Peter Elwin, director of fixed income and head of food and land use programme at non-profit, Planet Tracker in today's opinion piece. "Climate change is a reality, and the food system is on the front line. Ultimately, false claims about "climate-friendly meat" from meat companies will offer little protection for financial institutions that continue to support them," he says. 🌱 With climate change threatening pasture-based systems, particularly perennial ryegrass, farmers face feed gaps & financial strain during dry spells. 🌾 Innovative solutions like multi-species pastures can provide year-round forage. Collaborative research is key to identifying the best mixes for diverse environments! That is why collectively partnering with Multiple Universities across Australia and in particular Deakin University is crucial to the success of this project. #SustainableFarming #ClimateResilience #MultiSpeciesPastures #PastureManagement #AgriculturalInnovation #Ryegrass #FarmResearch #DiverseFarming #AustralianFarming #CollaborativeResearch
