With warm weather and blue skies ahead, it’s time to put the top down and head to the beach. 🏖 The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has some tips on how to stay safe on the road, in and out of the Sunshine State. Whether you’re heading out to work or on a summer getaway, vehicle safety is just as important in the summer. Here are the 8 top tips for summer touring: 1. 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 by checking your tire pressure, tire tread, and rotating your tires. If your tread is worn down, get a new set. 🚗 2. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 as sun exposure damages headlight clarity, and can cause clouding. 🚨 3. 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿 when it’s hot out. 🔥 4. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗯𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲! The air around your car isn’t crash-tested. 🤳 5. 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁, and make sure children are in the appropriate seat for their weight. 🐶 6. 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝘂𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲. 🛑 7. 𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗽! Seatbelts save lives. ✔ 8. 𝗢𝗯𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀. With the sun out, and your playlist blasting, it’s easy to go too hard on the gas. 🚔 The best road trip has no bumps along the way, it's time to get out and enjoy the summer! #Florida #RoadSafety #Cardata

The penny test for tire tread: If your tire tread has worn down below 2/32nds of an inch, it’s time to replace your tires. You can test this with a penny: If Lincoln’s head disappears below the tread when placed head first into a rib, your tires are fine. If his head is visible, it’s time to replace.
