I don't know if you're noticed, but by the intense howling outside my window, it is WIMDY! Driving in high winds carries it's own unique set of challenges that every professional driver must overcome to remain safe. Here's a break down of best practice: 🌪️ Begin your shift with a thorough vehicle check - vehicle panels and equipment are more likely to come loose in high winds, so ensure everything is firmly secured 🌪️ Plan and check your route before you leave - debris or collisions may have closed roads or caused delays 🌪️ Use local knowledge to avoid particularly open areas/bridges where possible 🌪️ Stay centered - being positioned squarely in the middle of your lane gives you the maximum room to react to gusts 🌪️ Obsess over mirrors - You need to be able to react safely to the weather, and that means knowing exactly what's around you at all times 🌪️ Heavy is savvy - avoid travelling empty if at all possible, as unladen high-sided vehicles are more vulnerable to gusts.
