This report highlights the critical role of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in addressing the growing challenge of droughts, which have far-reaching impacts on rural communities, industries, and essential sectors like energy, agriculture, and water supply. Our Future”, emphasizes the transformative power of sustainable land use – a blueprint to the healthy future on land for future generations. This theme recognizes the crucial role that land plays in our lives - from supporting ecosystems and biodiversity to underpinning our economies and communities. This day challenges us to reflect on the legacy we're creating through our actions today and the green future we envision on land. Here are some practical suggestions to help counter the heat surge: 1. Plant More Trees: Trees provide shade, reduce temperatures, and improve air quality. Some low-cost and fast-growing tree species in Pakistan include Neem, Sukhchain and Amaltas, these can be planted by anyone in medians, roadsides, and green areas in front of houses. 2. Roof Insulation: Insulate concrete roofs to prevent them from absorbing too much heat. This helps keep interiors cooler, reducing the reliance on air conditioners. 3. Improve Air Circulation: Ensure air vents are provided in rooms and houses for better air circulation. Thoughtful house construction can minimize the need for air conditioners, which are major contributors to global warming. 4. Educate and Advocate: Promote awareness about the importance of planting trees and constructing houses with sustainable practices. But in the face of global warming, its cycle is getting out of control and deteriorating. The #OneWaterSummit, held on the sidelines of the #COP16 in Riyadh, marks a key step to put water back at the centre of global action.
