Meniscal cysts are a condition characterized by a local collection of synovial fluid within or adjacent to the meniscus most commonly as result of a meniscal tear. Diagnosis is confirmed with MRI studies of the knee. Patients typically present with a history of recent trauma, but may be asymptomatic. If symptomatic, they may report pain localized to the medial/lateral joint line or back of the knee, mechanic symptoms of locking and clicking, or delayed/intermittent knee swelling. Treatment is generally nonoperative with physical therapy and NSAIDs. Surgical decompression with partial meniscectomy versus meniscus repair may be indicated for persistently symptomatic patients who fail conservative management. This looks like a short TE weighted PD sequence (or possibly even T1). It looks more like a meniscal ossicle than meniscal cyst. #mri #radiology
