We need to be honest as a country about the ongoing, widespread issue of racism faced by so many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities on an individual and systemic basis. I am grateful to Yolngu MP Yiŋiya Mark Guyula for speaking out publicly about this. Given these experiences in basic customer service situations it’s not hard to imagine how such experiences of racism might flow on to become barriers to accessing all types of services. Important to see this as work for all of us to do in mainstream services to look to Aboriginal leaders and organisations for guidance on how to create culturally safe mental health services and environments. Important reading here from National Indigenous Times especially for those leading and working in the human, health and social services sector. Strongly recommend following NIT if you don’t already.

In Ep 13 of Thinking Aloud, I interview Natasha Hausdorff. She is a barrister at Six Pump Court Chambers, a frequent speaker on international law, and a commentator on the Arab Israeli conflict. In the episode, we discuss how her life has changed since October 7, how she measures the impact of her advocacy, and how her strong Jewish identity and love for Israel has influenced her work in fighting antisemitism and misinformation. https://lnkd.in/gqrx7a5y
