🌳 In our commitment to sustainability, we're not only building structures; we're enhancing ecosystems. This week's BREEAM category spotlight is LAND USE & ECOLOGY. 🌿 This category assesses the impact of a building on the surrounding environment. At Group Sigma, we believe that it is important to design buildings in a way that minimizes their impact on the environment. We selected a site for the Cercle du Lac building that had low ecological value, but we preserved the surrounding environment and retained the site's advantages, including the preservation of all trees except one. We also enhanced ecological features with extensive plantings, promoting biodiversity.🌱🌍 You want to know more? Tourism leaves behind it a trail of environmental degradation and waste. What if tourist architecture could up-cycle this wasted resource to begin addressing the environmental crisis of its own making? Can we not explore other forms of development, that can be erected and dismantled too? Do we really need to permanently occupy hill slopes with concrete multistoried buildings by displacing locals and felling trees? Come join the us in Leh this July, for a sustainable building camp. Where you can learn by making dwellings from found material. https://lnkd.in/dsHS4g8h

Mangrove City: A Vision for Sustainable Urban Development Mangrove City has evolved from years of research, design, and exploration I have dedicated in cultivating a world beyond ours boarders 🗺️ developing an archipelago composed of interconnected floating islands, each anchored by robust mangrove roots and enhanced with cutting-edge architectural designs. This dynamic ecosystem serves as a natural barrier against rising sea levels and severe climate impact while promoting aquatic biodiversity 🌊🪸 By incorporating mineral accretion technology 🐚🪸into these platforms, we not only clarify water quality but also create islands that evolve over time. This approach addresses critical issues such as sea level rise and ocean pollution, while demonstrating the potential of biomimicry and organic architecture in creating sustainable living environments. As we face the challenges of climate change, Mangrove City exemplifies a forward-thinking solution that harmonizes land and sea, offering a blueprint for future urban resilience and environmental stewardship - living with nature not in it. - #parametricarchitecture #sustainabledesign #urbandesign #resilientcities #architecture #mangrovecity

Happy Earth Day from OOBE! On this #EarthDay, we want to reaffirm our commitment to a sustainable future. Through ongoing Knowledge Shares (CPDs), lunch & learns, 'Think!' chats & our OOBE Academy, our landscape architects are constantly expanding their knowledge and resources to design spaces that are not only beautiful but also environmentally responsible. We believe that well-designed landscapes can: Promote biodiversity: By incorporating native plants and creating wildlife corridors. Mitigate climate change: Through techniques like rainwater harvesting and urban heat island reduction. Enhance our well-being: By providing green spaces for relaxation and connection with nature. At OOBE we have a wealth of experience in implementing sustainable practices like green roofs, permeable paving, and native planting schemes to create a vibrant and environmentally friendly urban environment. An important aspect of this is green/blue infrastructure. This refers to a network of natural and semi-natural elements integrated into urban design. Green/blue infrastructure provides a multitude of benefits: - Improved air and water quality - Reduced flooding risk - Habitat creation for wildlife - Opportunities for recreation and exercise By incorporating green/blue infrastructure into our designs, we create truly restorative landscapes that benefit both people and the planet. We're passionate about using our expertise to create landscapes that benefit people and the environment. We'd love to share more about our sustainable design practices! Are you interested in joining one of our knowledge-sharing sessions? Let us know in the comments below! #EarthDay #Sustainability #LandscapeArchitecture

𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝑾𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆? 𝑼𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑬𝒄𝒐𝒔𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒏 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝑬𝒏𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 In the domain of architecture, the importance of Landscape Conservation, Enhancement, and Management cannot be emphasized enough. The seamless integration of natural surroundings with man-made structures transcends mere aesthetics; it represents a holistic approach that acknowledges the intrinsic connection between built spaces and the ecosystems enveloping them. Landscape Conservation entails safeguarding natural landscapes and acknowledging their role in sustaining life, biodiversity, and overall ecological equilibrium. Enhancement and Management delve into maintaining landscapes, ensuring their functionality, beauty, and resilience. 𝑬𝒄𝒐𝒔𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚 𝒂 𝒑𝒊𝒗𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒖𝒑𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏. Three key aspects highlight their significance: Biodiversity and Resilience: Restoration efforts contribute to preserving biodiversity, ensuring ecosystems remain resilient in the face of environmental challenges. Architectural designs that incorporate restored ecosystems benefit from heightened biodiversity, fostering healthier and more balanced living environments. Climate Mitigation and Adaptation: Ecosystem Restoration aids in climate mitigation by sequestering carbon and mitigating climate change impacts. Architects can integrate climate-resilient designs, responding to changing environmental conditions and fostering long-term sustainability. Water Management: Ecosystem restoration often involves water management strategies, seamlessly integrable into architectural designs. Sustainable water practices like rainwater harvesting and wetland restoration contribute to both ecological health and architectural innovation. In the intricate dance between architecture and the environment, Landscape Conservation, Enhancement, and Management emerge as guiding principles. Ecosystem Restoration and Management serve as dynamic partners, embracing sustainability, resilience, and a profound connection with nature. As architects, planners, and citizens, it is our responsibility to champion these principles, ensuring that our built environments stand not only as testaments to human ingenuity but also as stewards of the delicate ecosystems that surround us. In this spirit, IEREK, in collaboration with Università degli Studi 'Mediterranea' di Reggio Calabria, Italy, will organize Landscapes Across the Mediterranean (CrossMED), focusing on exploring the impact of Ecosystem Restoration and Management on Landscape Conservation, Enhancement, and Management. Check out the conference topics here: https://lnkd.in/d7kbtHcr #IEREK #Crossmed #Scoups #Reserach #Italy
