"My name is Mateo Ramirez from Colombia. I left everything familiar behind to start a new life in the UK, bringing years of experience as a carpenter. Back home, I was someone people trusted to get the job done right. But here... it feels like none of that matters. I thought my skills would be enough, but I quickly learned it's not that simple. The certifications, the rules, the way things work here — it's like learning a whole new trade. I've applied for job after job, and each rejection feels like another reminder that I'm starting from scratch. People keep telling me, ‘You'll get there,’ but I can't help wondering if they know what this really feels like. Days have turned into weeks, and I am still not where I want to be. Did I make the right choice? Or was this a huge mistake?" At Migratrada Network, we understand the struggle. This is why we've created a community for people like you — new to the industry, but determined to succeed. We're here to help you connect, learn, and grow, so you dont have to face this challenge alone. It's time to take the next step. Would you take this leap? Follow us to hear more about tradespeople's journey and join a community built to support your success in the UK construction industry. #MyTradeStory #ConstructionJourney #MigratradaNetwork

After going through the weekends applications one thing has become clear, if you live more than 45 minutes away from the job's location, there's a 99% chance your application will be turned down. The location requirement is simply not met. For example, if you're applying for a position in Derby but currently live in Leeds, your application is likely to be straight rejected. However, if you're A) Are planning to move to Derby, B) Will relocate if offered the position, or C) Are open to a long commute, You really need to adjust the location on your CV to match the job's area or explicitly mention your relocation plans. Better still send the hiring manager or recruiter a message to inform them about your willingness or plans to move. This issue comes up often, and most candidates are quickly filtered out due to location and travel distance - especially if there are 3 days on-site working. By doing this you will see better results - certainly worth a try. #locationmatters #applicationtips

So What Exactly Are 1102s in the US Government? - An 1102 is not an 1102 is Not an 1102 I have returned from a bountiful, restful post-retirement vacation in the island of Tobago in the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago. When I say restful, it was a restful as can be surrounded by 89 extended family members who have taken over a hotel for a family reunion. Now we can turn to the next in this series of introductory newsletters. The short answer to the question “So What Exactly Are 1102s in the US Government?” is that 1102s buy and manage contracts for goods and services awarded by the United States government. In a recent newsletter, I wrote that most Contracting Officers come from a government job series called “1102 - Contracting Series.” In that post I mentioned that not all 1102s are created equally and that there is a hierarchy in the career field, even between 1102s at the same grade level. Unfortunately, most people applying to field (based on a totally unscientific study of posts on the /1102 subreddit in Reddit) just say “I want to be an 1102, how do I apply” without understanding that there are distinctions in both the job title and the actual work they would be doing for an organization.
