Harvesting Innovation: Exploring Vertical Hydroponics and Climate Resilient Agriculture Systems https://ow.ly/wFWa50U3gl3 One way to improve climate resilience and adaptive capacity of countries is hydroponics, a method of growing plants without soil that promises to revolutionize agriculture. Walkers Reserve, located in Barbados, is a pioneering facility dedicated to sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient landscapes in the Caribbean. Recently, I had the opportunity on behalf the UNDP Accelerator Lab for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean to participate in the Caribbean Climate Smart Agriculture Project workshop held at this transformative venue. This workshop was organized by the Walkers Institute for Regenerative Research, Education and Design (WIRRED) in partnership with The Caribbean Climate Smart Accelerator (CCSA), Fork Farms and Scotiabank.

🌾 Some Current Challenges in Smart Agriculture in Europe 🌾 As Europe leads the way in adopting #SmartAgriculture technologies, several challenges are emerging that need our attention and innovative solutions. 🚜🌱 Cost of Implementation 💰: High initial costs for smart technology adoption can be prohibitive, especially for small-scale farmers. Financial incentives and support are needed to make these technologies accessible to all. Training and Education 📚: Farmers need proper training and education to effectively use new technologies. Building capacity through continuous education programs is vital for the success of smart agriculture. Environmental Concerns 🌍: Balancing technological advancement with environmental sustainability is critical. 🌿 Big news for Northwest Queensland! Southern Gulf NRM has teamed up with leading organisations (Gulf Savannah NRM, James Cook University TropWATER, Downforce Technologies, and Maxus AI) to launch a groundbreaking project through the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program. 📍 Covering 90,000 hectares over the Southern Gulf and Gulf Savannah regions, this initiative will support 18 grazing properties in adopting sustainable practices to improve land condition, boost biodiversity, and build climate resilience. 👨🌾 Expressions of Interest will open soon—stay tuned!
