In the past, I'd feel a bit envious of those attending, but this time, it didn't faze me. 🏗️ Working at Carpus+Partner AG has shifted my perspective on architecture. In addition to building our house to “visitable” standards, we also incorporated many ADA features to promote ‘universal design', which is the design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design. Larger doorways increase accessibility for those who may be using mobility devices, and let’s face it- are more comfortable for everyone else too. Our digital design process allows us to easily build accessible features into our homes, ensuring that they can be enjoyed by as wide and diverse a range of people as possible. As the third Academy project in our "Movement and Mobility" theme, we are excited to introduce you to #OKURO. Timo Miura, one of our talented Industrial Designers, developed this groundbreaking project as his master's thesis within the #PHOENIX_Academy. It explores the future of public transportation, reimagining urban mobility as a platform for human interaction and challenging the status quo of public transit systems. Therefore, OKURO is more than just a transportation solution; it's a vision for transforming how we experience public mobility in densely populated urban areas. The project delves deep into the issues facing public transportation today, proposing a vehicle that not only withstands the pressures of city life but also enhances its passengers' emotional and behavioural responses. At its core, OKURO is about creating spaces that resonate with people, turning a bus ride into a more meaningful and pleasant experience. Key features of OKURO include: Mobile Architecture: Redefines vehicles as moving architectural spaces, shifting the focus from mere utility to creating environments that foster human connections. Human-Centred Design: This approach prioritizes passengers' emotional and psychological wellbeing, considers how public spaces impact mood and behaviour. Urban Mobility as a Platform: Encourages the transformation of public transportation into a living space, promoting interaction and positive social experiences and introduces the concept of the "third place" as an essential extension of our living spaces.
