In recent years, the global automotive landscape has been witnessing a remarkable transformation, with Chinese vehicle manufacturers gaining significant traction across various markets. From passenger cars to electric vehicles, their rapid rise has been fueled by innovation, competitive pricing, and a strategic focus on quality improvement. This trend is not just a passing phase—it’s a shift that will inevitably reach Africa. We've already seen this transformation take hold in the heavy-duty truck segment, where Chinese brands have successfully disrupted traditional players by offering affordable and reliable solutions tailored to the needs of emerging markets. As this momentum continues, it’s only a matter of time before we see the same impact in Africa’s passenger vehicle and light commercial vehicle segments. Chinese automakers are positioning themselves strategically to meet the growing demand on the continent, and their presence is likely to reshape the competitive landscape. Very well-articulated story by @edmund conway on the global position of the cost of making a #BEV battery electric vehicle and the refinement of this manufacturing for global scale. All very interesting, but I do not see the demand for BEV.

Insightful ! Many pages are yet to unfold, and there would be hopefully rebound by other players. Having said that…. China made EV bet quite early, invested to create and control the value chain. Created a significant domestic market, staying ahead on technology, created cost leadership (supported by state subsidies), delivering quality products. While the world was debating whether EVs will take off and why it is not a good idea. Many OEMs found it difficult to justify investments in two diverse technologies as they had to meet stringent diesel emission standards legislation’s and had to justify investments in EVs that had a very small market.
