This heinous act, committed while she was fulfilling her duty at a hospital, forces us to question the very essence of our independence. For whom are we celebrating, and why? It feels as though we have lost our moral compass, and with it, a sense of collective humanity. A family that once took pride in their bright, young daughter is now left with an unbearable void. How have we become so barbaric? Where will this end—if it ever does? As a society, we seem to be so consumed by our individual concerns that we fail to address the deep-seated issues plaguing our communities. This incident demands more than just temporary outrage; it calls for a fundamental shift in our societal values, our politics, and our governance. The sensitivity that once defined us seems to have lost its relevance. But we cannot afford to lose hope. We must channel our anger and grief into a sense of purpose, into meaningful actions that will ensure such tragedies never happen again. Our independence should not just be about the past; it must be about building a future where every individual can live with dignity, safety, and justice. The Indian government is fostering division within communities for electoral gain. Citizens need to recognize this tactic and refrain from engaging in hate or violence. Maintaining peace is vital for the growth and development of our nation. Educated individuals have a significant role in promoting unity. Allowing conflict to take root threatens our collective future. The effects of hatred can touch everyone, so we must actively promote love and reject hate. Alhamdulillah, during Friday prayers, our mosque's prayer leader (Imam masjid) urged us to spread kindness and not respond to hate with hate. Instead, we should approach those who dislike us with compassion. By remaining calm and acting with integrity, we can demonstrate the power of kindness, which may one day transform the hearts of those who choose to hate.

This shift is not just a generational change but a deviation from a value system that once harmonized society. To understand today’s challenges, we must revisit the pillars of that older system. The Glue of Society and Family Life Historically, villages in Bharat were held together by values deeply rooted in respect, duty, and collectivism. Values such as respect for elders, joint decision-making, interdependence, and collective responsibility were not just words; they were lived experiences. This value system reinforced family unity and fostered a sense of belonging and shared purpose within villages. Elders were seen as wise custodians, guiding the families and society on principles of Dharma. Western culture places a strong emphasis on individualism, which is in stark contrast to the collectivist approach of traditional Indian society. This shift towards individualism has led to a decline in family values, with individuals prioritizing their personal goals and aspirations over family responsibilities. The fracturing of families and societies in Bharat is evident in the changing dynamics of family relationships.
