Russia plans to build up fleet of modern fire trains
Aleksey Druzhinin, the head of Roszheldor, the Russian federal agency for rail transport, asserted the need for the expansion of the fire train fleet in his interview with TASS. “Indeed, first, we are already overhauling these trains... Last year we received several trains of a whole new level. We see the need to build up the fleet of fire trains”, he reported and stressed that the expansion of the fire train fleet is “limited by financial constraints”, as trains with specialised equipment are costly.
According to the national Railway Transport Inhouse Safety Service, 309 fire trains were in service in 2022. Traditionally, they include one car for crew and equipment and two tank cars. In 2023, Remputmash of the Sinara–Transport Machines holding built 22 such crew and equipment cars, which had been approved for serial production the year before, at its Kaluga plant. According to the manufacturer, 25 such cars will be built in 2024.
