Stipend of PhD Scholars Most BSchools pay stipend to their PhD scholars for 3-4 years. Considering that the first year goes in coursework, it leaves just scholars with 2-3 years to complete their PhD with stipend. Most scholars take up jobs as permanent or guest faculty to sustain themselves further delaying the completion of their thesis. A PhD programme typically takes 4-7 years with the average being 5 years. Considering this colleges should look to extend the stipend payment to at least 5 years. #phd #stipend #academics #research #strategy #management #phdjourney

🎓 Rethinking PhD Admission Criteria: Beyond Standardized TestsIn the pursuit of academic excellence, we must prioritize genuine research potential over standardized test scores. A PhD isn't just about passing exams; it's about making a significant contribution to knowledge. Let's move away from the one-size-fits-all approach and focus on evaluating the quality and significance of research proposals. This shift will ensure that doctoral programs attract candidates who are truly passionate about advancing their fields. It's time for a change. Let's uphold the integrity and quality of doctoral education by reevaluating our admission criteria. #PhD #HigherEducation #ResearchQuality

#Thoughtprovoking "Further, the idea of a research intensive fourth year leading to direct admission to PhD seems to rest on the assumption that research is only a skill-based enterprise. If appropriately skilled in research methods, a scholar can arrive at “findings and conclusions” in the minimum possible time. This approach fails to consider research a reflective and deeply deliberative exercise. If a PhD is only about solving a specific problem within a stipulated period of time, how can it justifiably be described as a Doctorate in Philosophy?"

Attention University Professors and Academicians When it comes to PhD admissions, what matters the most? 1. Statement of Purpose (SOP) 2. Letters of Recommendation 3. Research Publications 4. CGPA 5. Undergraduate/Graduate Institution I’ve observed cases where students secured admission into top-tier universities without any research publications, while others with strong publications faced rejections. What, in your opinion, plays the most significant role in the selection process? I’d love to hear your insights! #PhDAdmissions #AcademicResearch #HigherEducation #PhDLife #GradSchoolTips #ResearchOpportunities #StatementOfPurpose #LettersOfRecommendation #UniversityAdmissions #AcademicSuccess #PhDCommunity #Proffessor

I have some experience with the USA PhD system because I was a postdoc in the US for six years, although I never supervised any graduate students. The book describes the US PhD system, which looks like a bit of a mess (for example the completion rate of PhD students is 50%). Most of the US PhD students I know seem happy enough. Anyway the book below is an interesting read. https://lnkd.in/eEziUgMP

Before enrolling in a PhD program, consider the numbers at the institution: If a university, college, or institute has over 1,000 scholars waiting for a PhD, at least six scholars should be defending their theses daily, or at least 125 scholars should be doing so monthly. Otherwise, clearing a backlog of 1,000 scholars will take a long time, especially as 700-800 new scholars are added each year.

There seems to be a growing trend in PhD programs where incoming students are expected to have publications from their undergraduate research. But this could disadvantage students from institutions with limited research opportunities. Expecting undergraduates to fully grasp the complexities required for high-quality publications may be unrealistic. Early success in publishing doesn't necessarily predict future success. What truly matters is depth and quality, which often require more time to develop and may not be achievable during undergraduate studies. Please add comments, what do you think. #academicsuccess #phdposition #undergraduateresearch #researchanddevelopment #academia #curiosity Motivational Tv
