True or false: You should wait until you're closer to retirement age to start REALLY planning for retirement. OK, you know that's a trick question. Hopefully you already have a retirement account started, either through work or you've been proactive on your own, but please do NOT wait until you're close to retirement to actually check in on your retirement strategy. Things change in our lives, whether it be our health, our families, our needs, and more, so we want to make sure we are right there with you tackling each curveball as it comes. Has it been a while since you've checked in on your retirement strategy? Give the office a call so we can do a check-up.

We used to think of retirement as slowing down and retreating from our work lives. Many of us imagine a retirement like our parents, a leisure only retirement. It was seen as the beginning of the end, a time to take it easy and relax. However, retirement is no longer synonymous with idleness; it has transformed into an opportunity to find your passion. This phase represents the start of a new and extended chapter in your life. The key to this successful transition is a change in your mindset. Retirement is no longer the end but the beginning of a new, long, and exciting journey. What do you view as more of an obstacle during retirement—inflation or longevity? If you said, “Probably both,” you’re on the right track. But if you said “inflation,” you might be wrong. Here’s why: Most of us are anticipating inflation in retirement, so we plan for it. What we may not consider, however, is living 30+ years as retirees. So we fail to factor in our lifespan when creating our retirement strategy (which of course ends up causing more strain). So what’s your next step? Here’s how to be proactive and start planning for long-term success.

How do your employees feel about their retirement outlook? Are they confident? Do they have an idea of what retirement looks like for them? Do they know when they can comfortably retire? Do they feel they are in an outright sprint to save enough before their eventual retirement? I hope not. Perhaps the most important question, do they have a dedicated resource as part of their plan to discuss all things financially important to them? I genuinely hope they do. If not, we should talk.
